I was coming home from Dallas yesterday when I had a couple of Laser alerts from my V1 pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I had noticed this a few times before...in most true Lidar scenarios, the cop would be sitting on the side of the road picking off individual cars. In Houston, it's not uncommon for one cop to be aiming the gun and several other officers on foot to wave you over. Anyway, I'd noticed these strong alerts several times when there was no evidence of any law enforcement around. I finally noticed that it was two different Infiniti FX35's that were setting it off, only when I got in front of them. It would go off in set intervals until I got around 1/2 mile away. I didn't see a detector of any kind in either of them. What could these cars have that would be setting off Lidar alerts?

They have neon third brake lights. Same will happen with Trailblazers/Envoys/Bravadas. And E46Cic's.

The LED tail lights seem to do it.

Here's an extract from the Infiniti web site:
INTELLIGENT CRUISE CONTROL
It's like cruise control, only smarter. Using a laser sensor and digital rangefinder, Intelligent Cruise Control* scans the road and detects vehicles ahead. If cars slow, it automatically decelerates and/or brakes. When traffic clears, cruising speed is resumed.
Optional FX45/FX35
*Optional Intelligent Cruise Control is not a collision avoidance or warning device. For highway use only and not intended for congested areas or city driving. The system will not brake automatically to a stop. Failure to apply the brakes could result in an accident.
If you get rear laser alerts while in front of a car, it is probably this type of system. If you get front laser alerts while following a car, it is probably from the tail lights. Other things will set off the V1 laser alert, including the BMW navigation screen :D

Late model GMC 3rd brake lights will trigger it. But when you were in FRONT of those FX35's, it's their laser assisted cruise control that is triggering it.

Thanks for the insight. I had perused the Valentine site before I bought my unit but don't remember seeing that FAQ from there. Now I'll know what to look for when it starts going off in unusual places.
