Going back and forth with the dealer trying to get me into a 2004 325i and wanted to see if this was a good deal ... this is where we're at:
- 2004 325i
- Silver Gray Metallic
- Black Leatherette
- Steptronic Auto Transmission
- Premium Package (Power Seats, Power Moonroof, On-Board Computer, BMW Assist)
- Heated Front Seats
- $34,145; They're giving me $9,500 for my trade-in, which is roughly $2,000 more than Acura offered me.
What do you all think about the price? He said that if I give him the deposit tomorrow he could have the car brought it and ready for me for the weekend so I know he'll call in the morning. I'm also having him check on a rear spoiler for me that I'm going to ask for at cost.
Unrelated question, does anyone know if the cd player will play CD-RWs?
Thanks.

You can do A LOT better, i got a 325i Mystic blue w/ Sport/Premium package, heated seats and xenon lights for 32,000 flat, that is without tax title and reg.

Going to talk to them in the morning and see what can be done ... I know that he's going to say that he basically is giving it to me at a lower price but is including it in my trade value as opposed to actually off on the price of the car ... thanks guys.

One thing to remember is that you only pay sales tax on the negotiated price less the amount of the trade in which is nice... Good luck! Let us know! We're rooting for you! FIGHT!! :)

325i - $25,730
Metallic Paint - $430
Steptronic - $1210
Premium Pkg - $2820
Heated Seats - $455
Destination - $695
Subtotal - $31,340
Add in dealer profit, tax, title, and registration. $34k before tax, title, and reg is a bit high. Also, I know you've heard it before but the Steptronic and lack of sport package would alarm most people on this board. But these are things that have caused some of my friends much regret so you should at least check them out when you're at the dealership. In the end, it's your own personal preference.

I would too but I guess other people have their needs. To be honest, I almost got Steptronic but not sport. The reason? I barely knew how to drive a stick shift and was petrified of driving an expensive car through stop-and-go traffic. I also thought "What?! A stupid sport package for seat adjustments, larger rims, and white tail lights?! What a rip-off!" Of course, that's just skin deep and once I got to experience the BMW manual and the sport package first hand, I was sold. I now have no regrets of either of those two decisions.
But again, if you live in a place with horrible weather and poor roads, you might not want that sport suspension and tires. I also wouldn't say a stick shift is for everyone. Some people just don't enjoy it. In that case, a BMW in Steptronic or SMG can be just as fun.

Yes, they will, however only certain brands seem to work, and even then they don't seem to work all the time. If its a really hot day, it usually doesn't seem to work and just pops the cd back out and says cd-error. However most of the time its pretty good, and i think its better than burning new cds all the time :)

Which is why I said "I'd" not "you should"... :p

Seems you can do a lot better. I'm basically looking at the same car you describe above only different colors and I got the cold weather package instead of the heated seats. Price out the door is $33264 (includes everything taxes/tags/doc fee). Plus remember the incentives currently being offered. Your deal makes me feel much better about my deal! :p

Thanks for all of the advice and help everyone ... what do you guys think of the xi vs. i? I'm just wondering how the 325i handles in the winter since all of my previous cars have either been FWD or 4WD ...

There's a $1200 incentive on 325i's still, keep that in mind.
If you're buying a car for a lot of snow driving, get awd. If it's just for occasional snow, get the 325i w/ an extra set of snow rims & tires. the Xi is too compromised the rest of the year.

I've just bought a '03 330i steptronic with 26 miles for $33000, I do not believe in buying new, why pay full MSRP when you can save $5000 to $7000 buying a year old vehicle which is basically the same.
Look for last year models and you will save a lot, with the savings you can upgrade your rims and tires plus any mods you want to make.

I believe you guys and am cool with going with the 325i and end up getting some snow tires for the winter. My girlfriend was talking to her friend at work and someone overheard her and said that they have a '99 325i and that "it's horrible in the snow, even with the snow tires", and that they had to put cinder blocks in the trunk and they still can't pull out of their driveway ... i'm not putting any faith in this person's opinion and it is a car a few years older but just wanted to throw that out there for discussion.

The car just won't go anywhere in the snow with it on. Power cuts when the wheels spin even a little (I used to live in Greenwich CT). There's no reason a 325 should have trouble in the snow... In fact, it has more weight in the back than most cars due to the perfect 50/50 balance... I suspect that those people just don't know how to drive in snow or operate their BMW...
But wait -- if they have a sport package with HP tires, the car might be tough in the snow... Our salesperson warned us off the sport package for the 528 when we were in Greenwich. Said we'd "be doing figure 8's"

I wouldn't take the word of just anyone - they could mean M+S tires when they say "snow tires" - and not all snows are created equal. My Conti WinterContacts were fine when new, I drove up a ski mountain in 3-4 inches of snow. But after 3 seasons they are now very scary, despite having a reasonable amount of tread left.
I will say that rear drive takes more skill in the snow - I would not loan my mom my 325i to drive in the snow.
