Quick question,

Is this the right part number for the power steering pump (32-41-2-229-679) for a 2001 MCoupe? The dealer replaced it for the second time today after the first replacement failed (at Watkins Glen no less) and now the steering feels exceptionally light / overboosted. Gotta love those remanufactured parts.

Yes, I checked the part number. That is the PS pump that goes in an 2001 M coupe.

I am on my third one. First replaced due to noise. Second failed completely like yours. This last one is working for more than 1 year already (knock on wood)

P.S. In my case there was no difference in feel with any of the 3 pumps that I had.

I'm on my first replacement. On a hot day the assist is reduced. Going to try having Century BMW look at this at HC.

Funny, I noticed that my car made a groaning sort of noise when turning the wheel hard and just had it looked at. Everything checked out fine so I'm happy.

Crossing my fingers now though - is this a super common failure accross the Z3 platform?

Black car got a new steering rack the first time I took it in for an oil service (internal leak). I mentioned that I've had to add fluid a couple of times, but there was never any on the garage floor.

The gray car got a new pump as the result of a tab breaking off the mounting bracket (brkt not listed separately). When the new pump came in, the dealer took off the brkt and allowed me to run home and mill off the unsued tab (for M3 application).

But in neither case did I ever experience steering pump failure. The black car would "groan" on full lock if the fluid got low enough (reservoir about half full) and that's what tipped me off.
