Can anyone give me an idea of the current fuel (premium, of course) prices in Europe? We will be travelling to:

German
Austria
Italy - Northern (perhaps)
Switzerland
Netherlands

Thanks!

Try http://www.benzinpreis.de/statistik.phtml which gives the average price reported in Germany. I think you want "Super". Click some of the links under Statistik to see trend graphs, average price by supplier, etc.

http://www.benzinpreis.de/international.phtml gives international prices. Gas in the U.S. is still pretty cheap.

Average prices for Super (95 Octane) as of today.

Germany - 1.16
Austria - 0.92
Italy - 1.04
Switzerland - 0.91
Netherlands - 1.18

As mentioned above, these numbers are average, they may vary depending on the distance from the refinery. All prices are in EURO, to convert in USD, multiply by 1.22.

Cheers.

Use Luxembourg as a gas stop. :D
Don't remember exact price, but somewhere 25% less expensive than Germany and a free Granola bar during fill-up at Esso.

I was in those same areas just 2 weeks ago for my ED. Looking at my credit card receipts, looks like I averaged around $70 US to fill the tank.

Fortunately, I was getting 25+ MPG (all autobahn driving :))

Don't forget, we Americans use the archaic "gallon" unit of measurement, not liters (or litres in Queen's speak) so multiply by an additional 3.7854118.

Just to give you some idea of how bad it is, I spent 58 Euros on one fill-up.

My tank bill was 60 Euro. Today

Every time I leave the gas station, I'm feeling a little lighter. :D

Thanks for all of the good information. I expected gas to be around $4 - $5/gallon so not too far off. Since we're going in November, I hope that some of the prices might drop with the "winter lull" in travel.

P.S. Luxembourg was already a possibly travel stop - now we have a 2nd reason :)

FYI, Switzerland is the WORST.

I average $2 per liter there, or about $8 per gallon.

Fill up in Austria if you can, it's much cheaper.

I don't think your info is correct. Currently a liter of mid grade unladed (95) costs ~ SFr 1.50 which translates at today's rate of 1 SFr = 0.781991 USD into $1.17 per liter, i.e. $4.44 per US gallon (3.78 l). On freeways the price is a bit higher but you'd have hard time to get over $5 per gallon. Historically the gas is always cheaper in Switzerland than it is in Germany and often even than in France.

I'm in Europe. Germany 95 octane = 1.13 Euro/L. Austria 95 octane = 1.00 Euro/L.

My 545i cost $100 to fill up. Figure $4 or more a gallon and you will be OK. Side note: Dont forget the toll you have to pay throughout Italy, France and Spain.
