Well, I have the tranny. Its in good shape it appears. Very dirty inside the bell housing, but I assume thats just dust from the clutch. Any recommendations on cleaning this? Brake cleaner?

I have the EVO shift lever and carrier, and I have the Rogue shift kit on the way.

I gotta get fluids... recommend weights again...?

Otherwise, looks like it will happen before homecoming, assuming I dont leave town again. Anyone have the torque ratings for the guibo and the transmission bell housing...

Anyone know what bolts are used for hte bell housing, and if I need to replace them?

Either brake cleaner or Simple Green and water to clean. Mainly clutch dust, some oils.

I use Redline MTL in my trannies. My other choice would be Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube (85W-90 IIRC, they only make one weight).

So do I need another slave cylinder? I am assuming thats what pushes the clutch...

Part number 21 52 1 158 093...

Should I replace it, use the one from my 5 speed, or just clean it and use it?

One more stupid question... where on the transmission do I find the part number?

I honestly don't know. I will call DannO as soon as the shifter arrives...

I tracked the shifter...

Should be here on Monday....

So I guess sometime after this weekend....

So I will have the transmission, shifter, a spare clutch and pressure plate, etc...

I have spare exhaust bolts and nuts...

Hopefully it will all go in pretty quickly...

As for the fluids RL MTL if u are not installing a LTW. If u are going to use an LTW use RL MT-90. It will quiet the chatter much better.

Diff, I recomend RL 75W90.

BTW, what was it that made u decide on RE for the shifter? Just curious.

Ok, dumb question.....

When I put the transmission in nuetral, and turn the output shaft, the input shaft still turns.... Is that bad or good? Or is it just that the synchros or something are moving the rod or something like that?

Just curoius....

Ok, scratch that...

If I hold the input shaft still in my hand, and turn the output shaft they move independantly...

If someone wanted a 6-speed like yours, would you be able to source one? Just curious. Also, was it expensive to get the driveshaft shortened? What kind of clutch are you using? Did you buy another just to replace it since you already have everything apart?

So the parts you need are: 6-speed tranny, EVO shift lever and carrier, shortened driveshaft, is that it?

Sorry for all of the questions.

Hmmm....

If you want to do what I did, it takes patience... Thats about it...

Lets see.. Tranny, all you need is the tranny. The rest is just added weight to ship.

You need a custom made shifter. Ben made mine up for me. Its a custom deal, so it was a bit more expensive, but it will save time and money in the long run. UUC doesnt make a shifter for the coupe and 6 speed.

Driveshaft shortening and balancing worked out to be about 150 plus shipping. Or at least thats my best quote. I have another quote for 200 bucks. Most drive shaft shops wont touch it as its a BMW friction weld...

I am using a stock clutch. I have a new one and all the extra new parts just in case. I wont install the clutch unless I have the tranny installed at a shop. If I do it myself, I will probably sell it on the used forums or keep it just in case....

Once again, talk to Ben at Rogueengineering... Very helpful guy, has done the swap himself, and custom made the shifter. Pix to follow when it arrives on monday.

I am replacing everything on the transmission that comes off.... Just in case. It cant hurt.

If you go with a different tranny, you have to change to a different clutch/flywheel setup and thats the main reason I went with the tranny I did. There are two other options, but overall, this tranny is the cheapest way to go if you really want a 6-speed.

If you want a tranny, then I will be happy to do the best I can to help you get a tranny. Just keep in mind that the dollar is down, and you feel it. However, its no where near as expensive as what Bimmerworld and bekkers are charging... Those guys are on crack...

FWIW, it took me over 2 months to find the tranny....

So dont plan on being in a rush, cause it wont happen soon no matter what...

The shift kit arrived today. I will say that Ben does a very good job in packing it, and that it doesnt look like stuff can get lost too easily.

The carrier was SHORTENED 4 inches. Crazy. Its also a short shift kit and a WSR. We will try them out adn see how they work hopefully this weekend...

I dont know which system is better, but I got great service from Rogue, and ben took the time to explain everything to me, AND he also had the carrier shortened for me. I dont know if he saved me much money, but he saved me major headaches to be sure...

Too bad my other car blew up... now I gotta figure out how this is going to work out...

That driveshaft has to be shortened...

There is always something....

Oh, and Ben was worried about slop in the shifting, said that if the selector rod is loose, that I might want to replace the part on the transmission that the selector rod plugs into....

Said that it would make it very clean and crisp with no movement in the selector rod. So I guess I dont need the UUC selector rod after all... I am also putting a pic of this part on here too. For under 15 bucks, I guess it makes sense to replace it while your in there.

Can anyone recommend a lube or grease to use on the shaft inside the transmission where the fork is? Its pretty black and dirty, so I was going to clean it up. I was wondering what I should grease it with before I install it in the car.
