I think Alex B should get one. It would be cool in Cologne.

Today, the Boxster is the only alternative on price point,

Love it.
Hope they can take out the remaining aerodynamic lift.

C6 is looking stunning.
Just for the heck of it, I have just configured a C5 Base 1SB.
6 speed and all the stuff.
$49.985
This is about EURO 40.000
Now if you compare it to a Golf V TDI with all the goodies, which costs about EURO 32.000 here, I don't know what to say.
I want one badly.

Why buy a base model for $49.985 when a Z06 is $52.985? The only options on the Z06 are a $175 seat memory package and body colored moldings.
That is about EURO 44.000.
C6 goes on sale in Europe in October
Wait for the Z06 alex...btw, what do they charge for the Corvette in Germany?
Looks good ... the Corvette has always had a certain mystique about it. A good friend of mine who I just got off the phone win said he ordered one and it won't be out for 2 months.
BTW Nate, I think that picture of you in your avatar doesn't do you justice ... I've seen better pics of you.
what's the meaning of, "the engine felt like a big block"
would be nicer if it was a high tech engine. still push rods? :dunno:

I agree with you on a lot of things but not on the "Fat Pig" statement.
"The overall length is five inches shorter and an inch narrower than the C5, making the new car the same size as a Porsche 911, and the C6 looks a lot tidier as a result-like a 911 is tidy. "

You may have to go back a few years in Corvette history to the C2 and C3 days to understand the meaning.

comparing it to the previous-gen corvette and the current 911 doesn't exactly make it svelte.

I too prefer DOHC engines, but the LS2 is compact, lightweight, simple, powerful, and no more fuel guzzling than the M5's V8, so that's fine with me.

I'm looking forward to driving one when they're in the showrooms. I drove a C4? (1996) back then and didn't care for it much. My expectations were far too high I think, but then again, i had never even sat in a late model Vette. My previous experience was a mid 60's split window my uncle had, of course I was a kid. Then a 1978, not quite a sports car by any means. Then the 1996.
I expected to be blown away by the car as I loved the asthetics of it from the outside. I recall the interior was a let down, it was noisey as hell inside, the shifting was terrible. It went like hell though, but that was about it.
All the positive press on the C6 is very interesting. I just fetched my Motor Trend, cover story is the C6. Gonna have to sit down with that this evening and check it out. I'm not totally sold on the exterior styling of it, but the interior looks pretty sweet. And heated seats!

Why would you want a "high teck" engine? Or more precisely, what's wrong with the "low tech" LS1/2? The LS1 makes 400+ hp/400+ lb-ft reliably and gets 30+ mpg on the highway. Plus it does this in a package that's smaller and lighter than a similar OHC design. The LS2 should only improve on the LS1.
So (if I've got this right) your thinking is bassicaly "it's old so it must suck"? You'd probably be surprised at how old the OHC design is.
Edit:  Sort of beaten by Jspeed.

There is a lot to be said about refining an engine for 40+ years...especially when it was a good design to begin with.
(It's the LS6 that makes 405/400, though. The LS1 ended with 350/360. The LS2 will start with 400/400.)

Have they released any technical data on the Z06?

The 96 car (especially the LT4 version) was, in some ways, the best of the C4s but it was still a 13 year old car design by then and suffered mightily because of it. The 84 models, while squeaky and creaky when new were not so bad for their time (aside form the video game dash, which was actually very functional if tacky). Corvettes have never been about fit and finish or supple rides. That may be changing though... :dunno:

Very good point. This (http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=27&article_id=8025&page_number=1) article in Car and Driver is an interesting read on the topic.
It's just really hard to argue with the power and fuel consumption on the LS2. I need to drive one. I've driven a few 'Vettes over the years and each had their strong and weak points. I'm looking forward to driving the C6.

Not that I know of, other than it will not be available at C6 launch... but they made the last one significantly better than the C5, so my hunch is that they'd want that trend to continue.

All of the rumors I've heard are of a 500/500 target...
