So, what is the best way to protect the front of our cars from rock chips?
Is it one of the black bras or a clear one? I may have to do a lot of highway miles in the future and was wondering if somebody has any experience with this problem.
TIA

I have the 3M clear bra on my 540. I've had it for a year and have had no chips on the front end despite 20,000+ miles on highways full of dump trucks. My windshield is pitted, but my front end paint is still perfect.

I have a 540ia, could you tell me where you purchased the 3M product, cost and how easy is it to install.

I have the Stongard product, it was installed at their factory in Bellevue, WA. They have authorized installers all over the country. I would not recommend DIY, for this....I think there are way too many chances at screwing up the film...then you would have to buy another kit. Installed, ran under $500 if I remember correctly....this was for a complete front kit, door handle cups, fronts of mirrors, and the top of the rear bumper (for loading things). The kits are custom cut for each model car.
They will clean and prep the surface, install it, and warranty for "life" against peeling and such.
Being a bit "anal" I claybar'd and polished all the areas that the film was going to be attached, prior to installation....just so I knew that there were no bugs or crap on the paint prior.
