Was behind an S8 today on highway and went to pass him (he was in the slow lane going about 65) when he saw me he stepped on it, so I obviously followed by doing the same. Long story short I felt like I was standing still. Embarrassing...anyone think the Dinan stage II or III upgrade would allow 750 to keep up.? That car is a beast!
I know this is a different animal altogether, but I put the smack down on a Mitsu Evolution the other day...we got on the entrance ramp to the highway...and he'd been hugging my tail all the way on the freeway, I guess he thought I would be an easy pass on the empty road...70-80-90-120-130....he got waxed! Side by side, I pulled him from 70 on. By the next exit I was four to five lengths ahead and gaining. I would never condone racing people on the public roadway, just not my style. Sometimes, you know its' just that moment and its right...as long as no one is around. Never again, but it was sweet.
A silly question - but why do you need to keep up? Faster cars are faster cars. Unless you're in a race, is it really an issue?
Maybe it's me, but I often think that stupidity or skill of other drivers will outweigh the performance of my car, so there's no real need to get an extremely fast car.
In my opinion, the quality of the experience is of much more importance that the outright performance. And for the 7 series that means equal amounts of quick, sure footed, composed, luxurious.
Did you see the RS version of the S8?? that is a beast and a half. It outruns the R8 coupe on the straightaway, where R8 outruns it in the corners. My friend has the S8. Its Nuts how powerful that car is.
As a former owner of a RS4 I can suggest - don't even try. If the RS is not screaming by you in a hurry, he simply is up for a relaxed drive listening to music. The difference in power, suspension, handling and simply capability overall (in the sports sense of it) is so great that the cars are not directly comparable. The downside - it will not stay on one piece for long if you use it the way it is meant to be. And you'll be looking at 5-10k maintenance bills twice a year if you do.
I was doing 90 in sport+ yesterday and it was the first time I ever hammered it. I couldnt believe how fast 130mph came along. Once my big girl is moving, her alter ego Usaine bolt comes out to play!
