View Full Version : tire speed rating good for 10min at rated speed

i've always thought it meant continuous for undetermined duration. 10min till they shred and fall apart seems awfully short to me.

Hmm. How long would you plan to travel at 186 MPH (Z-rated tire)? If you COULD maintain that constant speed, it would carry you 31 miles in that 10 minutes before disintegration. :D

Right!
And the tire has already been taken up to the lower prospective speeds first, IE: 10 min at 99, 106, 112, 118, 130, 149, 168, then 189. The total time spent over 100MPH would be significant...we're talking about the same tire spending at least 80 minutes above 98mph as a minimum before failure.

80 minutes over 98mph?
I could do that EASILY. I drove from San Diego to Houston a few months ago; if I were in my car, I could have spent 2 hours at 140mph without difficulty.
Thanfully, the PS2s are Y rated and my car cannot go that fast. :)
