E60 needs more oil ?

This morning I am driving my 530 and I had a message on I-drive. Add 1qt of oil
Oil level is at minimum. My car has only 4500 miles. After driving my daughter to school
I got back to my car and the message is now gone. :dunno:

Is there something wrong with my I-drive. Should I have the dealer look at this.

I thought the M - series was the only BMW that burned alot of oil.

... does not sound good... also depends on how many miles since the oil was changed

is there oil in the engine compartment... aer you burning oil?

NOT uncommon to add a little oil between oil changes... if following the 15k mile intervals (the countdown oil service schedule, etc) ... but at 4500 miles


I find that newer cars consume a little oil in the beginning... but level out with time.
I would bring it to the attention of the SA... but monitor the oil for the next few months... if in 30-60 days you get a significant lowering of the oil (assuming not within the oil service chane interval) then I would say you had a problem

My 530 asks for oil about every 7500, give or take. I had a 528 that never did. Dealer says it's normal, of course. I have also had the message show up after very hard driving on mountain roads. I check it and it's within the acceptable range. I usually don't take any action unless I see it again the next time I'm out with the car. However, if I'm at the bottom of the range, I'd probably pour in half a quart.

I'd monitor it daily just to be sure, but if you're not blowing serious blue smoke or finding puddles of oil under the car, I wouldn't be too alarmed.

My 2001 530i used 2 qts the first interval. 1 qt the second interval and only 1/2 qt the 3rd interval. That first quart was pretty concerning at only 6,000 miles. Have no fear from my experience the motor will far outlast the rest of the car.
