And no front either... Wonder when I'll get busted? Only one cop has given me the evil eye so far - I guess being in the DC area - they might assume diplomat status...

A couple of months ago, I saw a Z4 in the DC area with regular German plates. I think the plate had wording underneath it that implied it was a Z4 bought in Germany by an american army person. However, I though army people in Germany has special US plates.

Any clue on that scenario?

I believe VA law requires you to register your vehicle within 30 days of moving to VA... I used to run a German plate on my VW Bug back in the 80's, cop asked me one time how long it had been in-country, I replied "20 years"... wrong answer... They'll notice you eventually... when they do, just don't let on that you have been running it for as long as you have... They'll usually just tell you you to get it registered...

Yeah - I registered the car and ordered VA plates, personalized: "M 1218Z" - so its got legit tags that match - I keep one in the glove compartment. I figure if I'm getting pulled over for speeding, whats another $50?

As straight-laced as my wife can sometimes be, she thinks the plate looks too cool to change.

Had my German plate up front, VA plate in back, both said same thing "SY-VH 66"... Was helping a pal who ran out of gas, State Trooper shows up, starts asking about my "Counterfeit" license plate, suggesting that it meant "penitentiary time, boyuh"... :wow: (This was while I was in college out in Harrisonburg... ) Made me slap my VA plate on the front of the car before he would let me drive off... Just make sure you have your VA plate with you, you should be alright (until he sees you again... )

I would love not to run a front tag, however in Maryland it is not an option.

 - the attitude of the person has as much to do with it as the law.

If you want to use your zoll plate..move to PA. PA neither requires or provides a front license plate. I have seen a number of cars with euro front plates...including mine.

I used to own a porsche 996 GT3 back in 1999, moving from Germany back to the Netherlands I thought, let me hang on to my German plates for a little longer and after 6 months I was still running them..:D Later my luck changed because my car got stolen and the Germany insurance compay didn't pay a dime...:(
I should have registered my car in the Netherlands after 30 days for me not to be in violation of all kinds of laws...:thumbdwn:
I did however get my car back in 2000...:tsk:

Heh. Saw another guy yesterday with the same idea, M 7494Z or something, VA plates. White 325iT. I doubt too many people have an idea of what exactly that represents. He was running the front one, though--I hoped to see the real thing on the front.

Probably put the correct one back on the front for inspection, what with it being the end of the month and all...

I decided it was an option in Maryland for my e46. :)

Start looking at C5 Vettes in Maryland. More often than not, they have no front plates.

Knock on wood. I've been front plate-less since I bought my car in February, and have had no problems. I even had a hometown cop stop when I was outside of my car, and he got out and checked it out. He clearly saw I had no front plate and said nothing. I also got stopped by a trooper and issued a warning for speeding on 95, although I'm not sure he saw I had no plate.

Maybe it's cause I'm an old fart.

:D most likely, us early 20s get a hard time from the 7eleven crowd.

My 19 year old son can't drive through the Ft McHenry tunnel. He's been stopped and ticketed twice for an illegal exhaust on his Civic, and it's not that loud. But you can't fight it, you gotta pay the fine. I'm positive it's the age of the driver, and they're hoping they'll find something else illegal when they do the stop.
