I have a 78 320i that was running fine until recently. Now it will crank, fire briefly, then die, as if the flow of fuel was cut off. It will occasionally start and run fine for a while, then later the same thing happens again. I can't drive it because this keeps happening. Anyone know why? When it does start, it's fine, but I have already been left stranded twice and now it is sitting in my driveway. What causes this? It appears to have adequate fuel pressure and when it does start up it runs fine. Can the EGR valve cause this? The cold start valve? Anyone ever experienced this before?

"Seems" - you've hooked up a gauge and tested it?

Anything in common with the problem times? When the car is warm, when it's been sitting all night, when it's raining, etc.?

On my E30, I had a constant crank and die when the fuel pump fuse was gone. I had on-and-off dying and rough running that got constantly worse when my ICV was buggered. I had rough running with a vaccum leak. FWIW.
