View Full Version : Some information on Bluetooth with Assist / SMS Messaging

I've been working with BMWNA and some of the major parts departments surrounding this issue. People have learned that the Euro Bluetooth kits now have support for SMS Messaging in some cars. This is not yet available in the US and has not been anounced as far as a release date or availability. (BMW probably has way too many ULF modules in stock and needs to relieve that inventory before stocking new parts... tough for us, but it's a business!)

In my opinion, I'd rather not be trying to read and send text messages while driving 80mph. That seems really idiotic to me.... but to each his own.

I'm in the process of updating my 3 series DIY with a good deal of 5 series DIY images from various installs / build dates. If anyone has any questions please let me know. CircleBMW and others are on the brink of discontinuing Bluetooth kit sales from the volume of calls asking about SMS and other support issues. If your phone does not support the Bluetooth standards and the 'Push' function (to sync the address book, as with the T610/616 and some others) don't call the parts department for support! E-Mail me before you bother them.

Also, as a last note, BMW Assist users must sign a waiver when obtaining the ULF kit that releases BMW from Assist liabilities. In other words, you need to promise BMWNA that you won't sue them for your car not calling and telling them you were in a wreck after you removed the Assist module. Sounds stupid, but the company has to protect itself from lawsuit happy fools!

Take care,
Adam
