Since my Corolla GTS was up and running last week, the ZHP has been left in the garage untoched, beside a daily startup. I washed it yesterday and put it back into the garage, where it should remain there until the weekend. As I walk passed it this morning, I heard a voice in my head (in German accent of course) "come-on, give Vanos power a chance man! I will show you how much fun you have been missing driving that small Corolla." I said ok, I guess my little 4AGE engine get a break today.

As I approached my freeway offramp, I was tempting to take a detour. It was such a short drive, not even 10 minutes since I left home. For some reasons, my car felt so strong this morning. It makes me want to just take it to the track and let it rip. Boy, I guess I am going to take a long lunch break today...Azusa Canyon here I come..he he

Enjoy motoring

maybe because you've been driving your Corolla more lately? :p
if i had both those cars in my garage, i'd have a hard time ever getting into the Toyota. well, i guess except for runs to the grocery and stuff like that, where i wouldn't want the expensive toy to get dinged.

the Corolla's not a bad car though, huh? i test drove one and came very close to buying a used '03 LE model. i wound up with a new 325i instead. not very fair contest i suppose. ;) but i thought the Corolla was a nice car... decent pickup, ok looks, great build quality and very cushy interior for an economy car. stereo's not half bad either. i actually like it a lot better than the Camry... a little less bland to drive. the Matrix isn't bad either, but the styling is too racer-wannabe for me.

Welcome to my world. I was just debating taking the BMW to work tomorrow over my 03 Pro ES. I think I'll stomach another day with the Pro and drive the bimmer Saturday.

So tough walking by it daily though. BTW, why do you start your car daily? Never heard of that before.

dorkus,
My car is the older Corolla, the one with 4AGE engine that revs to 7800 RPM. It has a short wheelbase and run on Falken Azenis. All and all, this car is fun to drive and really cheap to maintain. However, I would be scare to get into accident with it. My wife is bugging to me sell it. We'll see.

Blueguy,
I don't know why I start it daily. Maybe I am psycho..he he..my reasoning is to charge the key and let the oil circulate but the true reason is to listen to exhaust note of the car. ;) My neighbor probably think I am crazy start up the car and rev it very so often.

Oh man, you guys have more patience than I would, driving is too fun to let a fine machine like my Beamer sit so alone. :D I swear no car compares to the feel & daily driving experience of my E46.

Thats cool, Club. I get the daily experience of driving to work in my 328, then jumping into my company's 4-cylinder Ford Escort...what a letdown!!

there's gotta be some sort of federal law against that in the books somewhere... maybe under inhumane treatment or cruel and unusual punishment.

Starting it and not letting the engine get up to real running temps on a daily basis is going to do you much more harm than good over the long term. If you start it and let it get up to temp while idling, it's a waste of gas and will also do harm over the long term. Just drive the damn thing!

agreed. idling is really not good for the car, and if it never reaches full operating temperature you are going to do a lot of harm. for example, if the exhaust system is not hot enough, the moisture from the catalytic converter will not burn off, and you'll get condensation in your exhaust which will cause corrosion. this happened to my mom's Honda, her drive to work is only 2 miles which is not far enough to get things warm and her muffler got completely chewed up.

also, is your car broken in yet? if not:

Since it is not good to idle the car in the garage, I shall make it a point to drive it at least 10 minutes on every startup. Thanks guy. Now I have a reason to get out and drive.
