Hey,

I have decided that when I get my E60, I want to replace the 18" run flat tires that come with it....

I love the BBS RG-R Forged 18 x 5 and 18 x 10 wheels. When I spoke with a sales person (I cannot remember the name) he recommended the Michelin Pilot Sport AS (245/40-18 front and 275/35-18 rear) wheels to go with the BBS wheels.

However, after reading the surveys for the other Michelin tires (Pilot Sport and Pilot Sport PS), the Pilot Sport PS have an overall better series of numbers than the Pilot Sport AS....

Does this matter in any way???? There is not enough difference in pricing to matter, but if I am going to spend an initial small fortune for new tires, I want to be sure to put the best on.

Many thanks,

Mark in Austin

If you just want one set of ultra-high performance all season tires then the Pilot Sport A/S are the best you can buy, 2nd place P-Zero Nero, 3rd Conti Extreme Contact. Otherwise I would get a set of dedicated summer tires for the BBS rims, and a set of dedicated winter tires on winter rims, and that's what you should really do.

I don't see any reason to get A/S tires for Texas.

I don't think he'll need a winter set in Texas...for that matter an all season tire either. Try tirerack and see what brands they have available for your car. I can't imagine the rears being cheap, and the PS (and PS2) will both be probably the most expensive you can buy. The PS2s are really good from what I've heard, but if you're looking to save some money you may want to go with something else.

Ha, ha, I didn't even notice he was in Texas! I guess since he was considering A/S tires I just assumed that he was in an area that got some kind of significant snowfall. Yeah, so really if you're in Texas what are you getting A/S tires for?

w/ an e60 and rg-r's he's got both foot in. may as well go for the best tires. and summers at that. ps2's, gy f1-gsd3, dunlop 9000 (for low roadnoise), new proxes t1-R.

treadwear would be the only feature of a/s that he can use in texas.

Certainly not in Austin.

Amarillo maybe.

Only if he is after longer treadlife, softer ride, or drives into snow sometimes on vacation or trips.

Treadlife is for losers. ;)

It's much better when your tire shop recognizes your voice on the phone. (Well, OK, maybe not...)

:flipoff: not when you have to pay 1300 for a set of new tires.

Wellllllllll

As I may have said, that was what the TIRERACK person recommended!!!!!

I told him the wheel I wanted (BBS RGR- Forged) and he immediately recommended the Pilot Sport A/S. I did not question him, and thought nothing nefarious of the recommendation until I went bask (on a lark) to see what else might be there. Now that I think about it, I likely did not mention (nor did he ask) where I was!!!!

It was then that I read the reviews of the other tires that I saw the survey results for the Pilot Sport and Pilot Sport PS and the slightly better survey numbers. BTW, I still do not feel that there were any plots to get me to buy those AS/S tires, as they are not signivicantly more expensive than the other two Michelin choices.

And no, I do NOT need any winter tires in south central Texas!!!! (famous last words..watch us get the worst snowfall in recorded history!!!!!!! :eeps: )

Cheers,
