I own a 99 323i, automatic. Now the automatic has the shifter is in the center panel. Well a penny fell down on my shifter and fell into one of the creases of the shifter. i think it got caught where the shifter looks into place for PARK. Now my key won't come out because my car won't lock in the park position. How do i take the panel off that covers the shifter and window roll down buttons, to get to the penny? Please Help
Sorry, I don't have any advice on how to remove the trim around the center console. I just wanted to say that Murphy's Law never fails... what were the chances that the penny would become lodged there?

you don't need to remove the whole panel. the black plastic piece that covers the shifter removes all by itself -- just pull it up. I had a problem where the ribbon that controlled the letters (PRND432) was broken so I had to replace the part. You can lift it up with yoour fingers, just pull it on the rear side of it. You'll notice that the wood (or 'aluminum') trim is actually screwed in, so don't bother touching that.
Hope this helps. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

you just saved me a ton of money minus one bent ass penny. It was wrapped and locked on to the shifter itself and was bent completely around. Thanks for your help, i've found what i'm now gonna call my lucky penny.
Hang it, like a trophy, from your review mirror!

What if the penny stuck in there was minted in 1943? :dunno:

hm, you're totally right about 1943:

definitely some ferrous content in that penny. i also didn't know the current penny is copper-plated zinc. i believe zinc is non-magnetic though.

The afermentioned penny was in 1990, and believe me zinc is not magnetic.
