Your thoughts? I think it would be pretty sweet, especially if you get 18s as opposed to the 19s....maybe not worth the $2000 price tag....

A rare individual color and it's pretty (IMO).
But never order an individual color before seeing it in person.

Some colors are looking veeeeeery good in the photos, but in person they suck big time. For example Sepia metallic is one of them. Under studio lights and with nice photoshop tweaking it looks very attractive in the photos. But I saw it on a bright day under the sun. I was running away like there's no tomorrow ;)

I think the bluewater is a nice color. I liked it very much on the M5. However, it doesn't do it for me, but that's not the question, if it's easily worth the extra money to you, then I'm sure you won't regret your decision :) . It is indeed a rare color though.

I'll add to that one. There are in fact a lot of Individual colors out there that need to be seen in person before purchase. The 3 series has Diamond, Aegean Blue, Sepia Metallic, Mora, Coloured Gold Metallic, Malachite Green Dark, Brass, Velvet Blue and Ruby Red II. There are other individual colors for the 5, 6, 7, X5, and Z4, but those are very rare and just got added to the list.

That is absolutely correct. See my first reply. Individual colors are not everyone's cup of tea.
I'm digging the new 6 color, Rubinblack metallic :yummy:

The new Ruby Black that got added to the 6 is nice, but it gives me the feeling that it has a touch of Mora Metallic in it. I might be wrong though. I'm waiting to see one soon with my dealer. What do you think of the Black II Non-Metallic on the 6 Mr. Baumann?

I haven't seen the Rubinblack in person yet, but I'd love to. From what I've seen so far, it has a touch of dark red (rubin) in the black. I'm guessing that it's a very noble color.
As for Black II, it looks stunning when it's clean. It shows dust and every speck, nomatter how you try to keep it clean. My old Coupe was Cosmosblack, It was very handsome after a fresh bath, but lasted only a few hours. If you can deal with dirt, why not ? It's a great color. You can't go wrong with it.

Another thing about individual color is that their cost ($2000) almost tranlate to no resale value. (Even if the color is a popular color). If the color is a very special color, you may have hard time finding a buyer.
Unless you will keep the car for long time, $2000 for a paint job just doesn't make send to me for a 3 series.

My take on individual colors. I agree that it doesn't make sense to spend the extra $$ unless you plan to keep the car for a good while. However, to me it was worth every penny to order my M3 in Avus Blue. To me it "pops" unlike any other car, BMW or otherwise, on the road. It even looks MUCH better than the E36 M3s I've seen in avusblau, since the E46 has more curves and bends to catch the light and really show the depth and range of that color. On a personal level, I also really like the fact that because few people know about custom color ordering (or might not be willing to pay for it) I may never see another Avus E46 M3 on the road. It almost gives me the feeling of having a totally custom car.
Now, before you get too worked up about Bluewater, you should make sure that you can find a dealer that can and will order it for you. My original choice was Le Mans blue, but after much effort I found that it was not available as a special order paint for my M3. There doesn't seem to be any obvious rhyme or reason why certain colors are available at some times and not others, but in any case you should have a few backup colors in mind.
Finally, it's really "only" a $1,525.00 charge for the custom paint, since you don't have to pay the $475.00 you'd have to pay for one of the standard metallic colors.

I just want BMW to bring back Zinnoberrot. Everything is all greyish silverish bluish. Booooring!

Yup, Mora is a great color (to me at least). It doesn't look that good in the catalog, but it's awesome in person.

I can tell you that I agree with the Avus Blue thing 100%. If I were to order a custom color, that would be IT. People don't talk much about Avus Blue, and I'm not sure why. From the e36 era, you always hear about Estorial. Avus blows them all away. My fiancee turned me on to Avus back when I first got into these cars. She was right.

There's someone who has a Blue Water M3 that I've seen at the track a couple of times. Looks nice IMO....
but yes.. the $2000 price tag for Individual paint I'm not thrilled with... but oh well...
