I was trying to get rid of some grease from the engine cover during the long weekend. I didn't know what to use so I just used some dish detergent. It worked a little though not very efficient. I think I rubbed it too hard the painted part, ie, the "----BMW---" logo on the engine cover seemed to fade a little. So I stopped rubbing immediataly.

What should I use to clean the grease without fading the logo? Any tips?

Thanks!

Thanks. The Griot engine cleaner instruction says hose it off after spray. Is there any area under the hood I should avoid water getting into it? Or I can use my garden hose to randomly apply water to rinse the cleaner out?

Thanks again.

When I last cleaned a engine I covered the alternator and airbox, but I was careful and did not really over soak the engine. If you are doing a good job of soaking or spraying the engine look here for the a full explanation and pictures on what to cover before spraying with water.
