Gary, will 9 x 17 BBS RG-Rs fit all around with 245/40-17 tires for E36 M3? I know 8.5 wide stock M Double Spoke IIs will fit all around with 245/40-17 on E36 m3. I like the RG-Rs for their looks and lightness compared with the stock M Double Spoke IIs, which look great, but are relatively heavy. If not I was considering the stock forged BMW Motorsport wheel in 8.5 x 17 all around from Bavarian Autosport.

Most have reported rubbing running 9" and 245/40R17 on the front of E36 cars. That being said with more negative camber and some fender modification, it certainly seems possible.

Where's the rub? Fender lip? Coil spring? My E36 M3/4 has a totally stock suspension? The other option is the BBS CH, which is offered in 8.5 x 17, 38-mm offset all around. I'm sure this will fit, but the weight is close to the weight of the stock M Double Spoke IIs. Price is also close to what Bav Auto charges for an OEM M Double Spoke II, 8.5--CH $423 each; OEM M Double Spoke II $429 each (www.bavauto.com)...tough call.

I see the Tire Rack also offers SSR GT2s in 8.5 x 17, 44 offset all around for $421 each. Probably will be lighter than the 22-lb each 8.5 x 17 BBS CH, but the Japanese SSR GT2 would look better on my Japanese Rx7 than on my German M3.

We've had reports of rubbing mostly on the fender, but a handful of cases on the inside front suspension as well. Looks aside, the GT2 weight in 17X8.5 is about 16lbs.

Wheels http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AB2&url=/wheels/index.jspWow! That's light! Saving 7 lbs per wheel (relative to the 8.5 x 17 M Double Spoke II @ 23 lbs each), might be worth forgoing aesthetics; especially if rubbing won't be an issue up front with stock E36 suspension.

Will the stock E36 M3 wheel BMW logo centercaps fit inside the SSR GT2's centerbore? Might make an aesthetic difference?

Thanks to edsarkiss of www.bimmerforums.com I found out BBS RGR, 9 x 17, +42 offset with 10-mm H&R hubcentric wheel spacers up front will work all the way around with 245/40-17 Michelin Pilot Sport IIs! No spacers are needed in the rear wheels.

Here are edsarkiss's webpics of his 9 x 17 RGRs with PS2s.

Gary, can I get the 10-mm H&R hubcentric spacers and longer lug bolts when it's time to order the RGRs from Tire Rack? I'd order a set of five RGRs with 245/40-17 PS2s. The 5th will be a full-size spare. I like the bright silver versions of the RGR. When are these expected in Tire Rack's inventory?

We don't handle the H&R spacers here at Tire Rack. There are too may fitment issues to deal with when attempting to sell those online or over the phone. It's best to source those locally where a shop can have access to the car and the wheels to make sure it's a safe fitment.
