I've done some searching on the various boards, but cannot find a definitive answer (it's probably too early to know yet, but I'm asking anyway ;) ). Husband & I want to do ED for an E46 330Cic in the May/June time period, but not sure if we need to go ahead and do it in 2005 or if it's safe to wait until 2006. My current car is a 2003 330Ci -- I'm not in a rush to get rid of it, but do want to switch to a 330 cabrio in the last year of the E46 cabrio production.
I've read that the E90 sedans will begin production in spring of 2005, with the E90 coupes & cabrios to begin a ~year later. So, whatdya think? Is it safe to wait until May/June 2006, or should we err on the side of caution and do it in 2005?
[Part of the reason I'm asking so far in advance is that we'd like to burn some miles for the flights to Munchen and we all know how far in advance you have to plan!]

First of all it is a great experience. Second, I would not want to buy the E90 when it is first available as there are bugs to get out and you really don't know the options and colors, plus sometimes they don't offer the really good options during initial production. I used miles for my trip to Munich and I can tell you that Munich is one of the easiest cities to find seats for using miles. Amsterdam is also pretty easy as opposed to Paris, Rome, etc.

The most important question is when the production of e46 cabrios ends. If the new ones are coming out in Spring 2006, chances are production will end sometime in the winter of 2005-06. If you wait until summer, it may be too late. It's possible you could order well in advance and have the car sit there for a while, but it seems like a bit of a risk to me, given what we currently have been told about production plans. So, I'd say it's not too safe to wait until 2006 summer, although who knows--it's always possible.
For comparison, look at the 5 series. I think that it was introduced in the spring, but there were still some ED cars picked up in early summer. Maybe you can look at some old threads for info.

I found this a while back, dont know the source or accuracy, IMWO, I think the coupe may be quicker coming than in the past, if they do produce the coupes in MY06, I dont believe it will be a full year, nothing to base it on other than just research and accelerated production schedules. All other dates have come true, if you want one of the last E46, I would start now, or at least plan on getting one of the first My06 models, probably the last
