Gary-

I am expecting to receive my X3 (ED) this month or early next month. I have always used (2) sets of tires for every car I have owned. I have tried to do as much homework as possible, but I am struggling to find the "right" tire for winter driving. I live in Avon, CO in the Heart of the Rocky Mts, hence the need for reliable transportation (I can't afford to but stuck at home on a powder day...)

I have narrowed the choice down to the Blizzak or Nokian. I know that you don't carry Nokian (any reason why, they are great tires?) I am not clear on the difference between the WS-50/55/60, or the Nokian Hakk SUV WR, Hakk 2 or RSi.

As you can see I am looking for a dedicated studless tire with some performance attributes.

Any thoughts?

There is only one Blizzak WS series tire, the WS-50. I think you might have been confusing the name of the tire with the size of the tire with the 55/60 numbers that you were looking at. The WS-50 is the best studless tire that we have tested, but I do not see them available in any size that fits the X3. In these larger 17" and 18" sizes you'll find more H and V rated winter tire like the Blizzak LM-22 and Dunlop Winter sport M3. As you pointed out we are not familiar with Nokian products. Some swear by them, but I have no info on them...
