A Miata.net forum poster put this email up - can you confirm? Will you be carrying the new Azenis?

The "New" Azenis Sport will be available 1st quarter 2005. The differences
are as follows: A lot more sizes will be available, 14"-19"; the tire will
respond better to standing water; the tread pattern, although still very
aggressive, will be more "radial" looking. That's about it, the tire is very
nice. We received our first one 3 weeks ago for us all to look at and "WOW",
I am sure you will all be very pleased!

On an interesting side note, we sent the Azenis Sport RT-215 to Tire Rack
(who doesn't currently handle our product) for some testing and we came out
on top beating out 13 other makes and models in the Ultra High Performance
segment! Even more interesting is that we placed 4th in wet traction! That
is a very strong finish for a tire that is designed around maximum dry
traction.

At times our test track is rented out. I doubt that we'll be carrying this tire in the forseeable future, sorry guys!

How much do the current Azenis run per tire? Maybe I should wait.... :D

Wow just found them...

Seems if they run to be around $150... I'd go with those over the Dunlop SP Sports. I don't mind waiting... not going to be driving my car too much during the winter.

Maybe I should wait for them then... I mean, for that price it's cheap and I can have fun with it on auto-x day and still use it as a daily driver.

What kind of mileage do you think I'd get from them?

Onlinetires is usually cheaper than Discount:

Their prices bounce a bit, though. The 14" were $41 the last time I looked.

Life depends on use. I had plenty of tread left at about 20K on the E30, which was a sedate commutermobile. They go at 10K or less on tracked or autoXed cars.

a 200 wear rating. that's pretty good for a track tire isn't it?

They're street tires, man!

Ostensibly.

I've run them on the track quite happily.

So does that mean you managed to get 20k out of the Azenis on street use? I figure I will be mixed between street and auto-x (and not as much auto-x as the diehards...), so that 20k number while probably not attainable for my style of driving, at least gives me an idea how long they will last.

I sold the E30 with tread left on the tire, so if you don't do anything nuts, you should get 20K out of them. The Miata eats tires, though.

Why? Shouldn't a light, balanced car be easier on tires? Is it an alignment thing?

Alignment and use.

Yokohama is supposedly releasing an Advan street tire that may be in the running too, they will have a 245/40-17 option

I'll take a 235 Azenis over just about any 245 or 255 street tire out there for grip.

in 2003 Nat's an E30 M3 on shaved 245 BFG KD's went unnoticed because of handling issues on an unsorted car (prepared by Bimmerhaus/Bob Tunnell) and no rain tires during the Day 1 deluge that resulted in him finishing 25th overall in STX, but on Day 2 he set the second fastest class clean time in the dry on his 2nd run and coned away the fastest class raw time on his 3rd run ;), that driver was Brian Fitzpatrick and it was his first and only time driving the car (it was loaned to him by the owner)

MX's have to be shaved in order to work well
