How wide are the RX-8 rims? Just curious :)
aren't they 18 x 8 ... I am pretty sure but if you really want to know, look at the inside of your rim and it is imprinted in it.

They are 18x8 on the 6MT and the auto with Sport Package.

Thanks much.. I'm going to wait until the 18" Azenis are released before I switch out tires :)

MazdaWorld is firewalled from my work so I have to ask where i can :)
Hercules, keep in mind that size is only one part of the equation ... the offset is very important as well ...
What is the offset of the wheels you are looking to get ?
Also do you have a picture of it ?

Stock wheels... my tires just need replacing.

oh ... thanks for pointing that out ... are they high performance tires ? How do they compare with the stock Bridgestones ...

They are louder, ride harder, much more prone to tramlining, wear faster, can be scary in standing water (especially when it's cold out). But, for a street tire, they stick like hell and are incredibly responsive. I had them on my wagon last year and I highly recommend them if the downsides are tolerable and you want great stick.
OTOH, the tires that Herc is waiting for are going to be a new tire. the current model was never made in 18" sizing.

Apparently the new Azenis will be better in all your criteria including water, so that's why I am going with them. That, and they will be cheappppp :)

you'll also have to see if the price stays low, I'd imagine the expansion of sizes and development will increase the overall price, plus the small size Azenis are really low cost but the largest sizes aren't all that, you know 18" will be higher still
if you decide to consider a different tire I would highly recommend the BFG g-Force T/A KDW2; almost matches the BFG KD tire in the dry but is now the best street rain tire on the market, should now be available in either a 225/45-18 ($168), 235/40-18 ($170), or 245/35-18 ($???) though the TireRack website lags on the latest available size offerings

let's just say there will be a certain BMW wearing bold BFG graphics running in a certain street tire class on shaved KD's for the dry and KDW2's for the wet/street next year :eeps:

not to be confused with 1st generation KDW
KDW2 general survey feedback (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHP)

Maybe we should all run out and buy Firehawk SZ50 EP's.
Why aren't half of the common brands in that list? S03's, Pilot Sport's, etc?
because they are in a different category, which is a separate survey group, personally I think the KDW2's are in the wrong category having been slotted in with the 1st generation KDW, note that the surveys are only for tires sold by the TireRack so they are not all inclusive
if you look at the difference between the SZ50 and KDW2 what you wll see is that KDW2 gave up noise comfort for steering response and cornering stability, they are known for being noisey and a bit rough, but thats the price you pay for performance, remember we're comparing them to Azenis which are rough and noisey too.
the thing is not to simply look at the survey and say one is better than another but rather to compare trends, etc., it is afterall only general feedback from consumers rather than outright test data, I never meant for it to e anything else, hence the title, "KDW2 general survey feedback"
again, they won't be the absolute best dry tire but close, where they will excel is in the wet which always held a higher priority for me in a street tire
here is the other category you were looking for:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP
you can see how the BFG KD tire scored very high in dry traction, but then very poorly in wet traction and hydro resistance which hurts it's overall position in the survey. If TireRack carried Azenis they would suffer more because it does worse in these categories than the KD, even the supposed revised version coming will still finish midpack due to "street" judgement elements.
