I just installed some M type-66 wheels on my 1998 528i. They are 235/45-17's off a 2001 540i replacing the stock non-sport package 15's. Now when I apply pressure to the steerling wheel I get a crunching sound. It's not a clearance issue because I don't get the sound mid-tern, just when I start it and then return the steering wheel to it's original position.

I used the original lug bolts, is that the problem? Do I need to tighten or loosen the bolts? Any ideas? Going to the dealer would be admittting defeat.

I would almost wonder if the wheel isn't seated fully on the hub. As if the wheel isn't fully tightened, which I'm sure you checked.

I pulled them off and then back on making sure they were seated. Not sure where to go from here.
