confused on wheel sizes...help please

ok i have been looking for the last few days for a set of rims to use as my winter set....i am trying to find a decent set of 16" rims (steel or alloy)...what i keep finding is people selling used 15" steel rims w/hubcaps for the e46...i thought that i read somewhere that 15" don't fit the e46 series because they interfere with the caliper....so am i wrong or are these people trying to pull a fast one????

Kaz is correct, 16" is the smallest that will fit over your brakes. We do have basic steel wheels for your car our our website in the Winter tire/wheel section.
