Nope, I think it's a gorgeous car, although my favorite is the DB9, which can be ordered with a 6 speed manual ;)

IMO one of the best looking automobiles in the world, along with anything Ferrari.

The only crappy part is that they are using Ford switches and buttons

Hmmm...I thought that clock in the dask looked familiar...X-Type, Mondeo.... :( The radio has a very Ford look to it as well.

I just wonder how Volvo has been able to hang on for so long.

Odd that AM gets some parts-bin stuff but the last 2 Volvos I drove (S40 and S60) seem to still have bespoke parts for this stuff.

But it's an improvement from the old Lagonda Virage that had Audi 4000 headlights and VW Scirocco taillights.

Agree...

Story I had been told both by a salesman in the UK and on some Volvo boards was the current generation of Volvo's i.e. S60, previous S40, V70, and XC70 would be the last to be totally independantly developed since they were already being made or designed when Ford took total control. However, the new S40 I've seen along with the V50, and XC90 seem to have escaped the Ford parts bin.

The question now is how/if Ford will benefit with sharing Volvo parts, since the Freestyle/FiveHundred/Montego is on the S60/XC90 platform.

Hmmm...interesting thought. I am going to have to hunt down some interior shots of that FiveHundred and Freestyle. I have seen exterior shots, but they don't tell the story like the interior shots do.

I wonder if much will be carried over. Historically it seems that the parent company has always drove their parts bin down on the smaller acquisitions even when the child companies have better stuff. Politically that could be a big mess inside Ford, "OK folks, these new models are going to use their switch gear from vendor X which Volvo already uses. Its far better than the stuff we have been buying for all our current cars." :eeps:

Not so odd. The volume difference between a Volvo and an AM is pretty substantial. A headlight switch is a headlight switch, and the economies of scale are the same no matter which car it goes into.

Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of which parts bin the stuff should be coming from. I can't tell if, for example, the windowswitches in the AM come from a Focus or a Jag XJ (assuming they're not the same), but given the choice they should be picking from the "Jag Parts" bin.

The destinction between all the PAG and Ford parts bins is going away...soon it will just be the collective parts bin for a lot of the small stuff. The X-Type/Mondeo is a good demonstration of this. The little clock in the AM dash along with the shift knob and other bits are starting to all look and feel the same.
