I have a 2004 3.0 X5 that I purchased in June. I got in an accident today in which the front left side of the car was damaged. I was exiting a freeway making a left (light was already green so I did not have to stop) and was hit by someone who ran a red light going anywhere from 35-45 mph. The front right side of her car was damaged and both cars needed to be towed. In this accident, my head hit the driver side window fairly hard. No airbags deployed in either car, nor did the Head Protection System in my car. I have never been in an accident like this so I am not sure how big of an impact is needed to set these off, but I would have thought they would have gone in this situation. I wanted to know if this was normal or if I should contact BMW regarding this. Any info would be great. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you're well and the X5 suffered no big damages, especially one as new as yours.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it must be hit dead-on in the front in order for the front airbags to deploy, or straight at the door for the side airbags (HPS).

I have seen other news where a side airbag deployed for no reason and the owner is suing BMW in a class-action lawsuit. Someone must have the link to this article.
