Anyone with experience with either the interior bike rack in the X3, or the hitch mounted bike carrier option?
How easy to install the first time? How easy to use when going biking?

Curt Manufacturing is working on a receiver hitch for the X3. The dealer they use for testing prototypes is a few hundred miles away so they estimate 30 days till one is tested and available for retail. I suggest you visit the web site and then tell them of your interest. The more folks who want to buy the sooner they are likely to have it ready. If it is similar to the one for the 325, it will handle bike racks but need a suporting strap. Their hitches usually require drilling etc. see:http://www.curtmfg.com/contact.html for 800#. The BMW hitch which is required for the BMW bike rack or a "standard" rack requires a hitch. BMW estimates about $400 for hitch + 4-500 for installation. A bit over priced? But probably not too bad for a BMW certified installation including full bumper removal and reinstall with electrical system updated.
