View Full Version : Installed my NAV-TV kit today...
Now that my NAV retrofit is successfully complete, time for the next mod! I installed the NAV-TV kit today. I hooked up the TV module and I get about 3 local channels. Reception is okay, not the greatest with the antenna placed behind the spoiler. I may have to try a powered antenna. Reception gets worse when I start driving.
Also hooked up the DVD player which obviously is very clear! The sound is not the greatest though. I will have to order the AUX input adapter to hook up the DVD in stereo solution like some have done.
Finally the camera! Now that was a PITA! I had to drill a hole behind the roundel in the trunk which wasn't easy. All the trim had to come off on the inside of the trunk to run the wires. I am still trying to figure out the wiring yet as I have no picture!
I have taken pic's step by step which I will post once it is all complete.

Glad to see n read that things are moving along. I agree w/you 100% on the antenna issue. When I got my first kit way back when, it came with a power antenna. Worked great. Took it out and installed it in a friends X5 that had the reg antenna, like what you got. The difference is totally night and day.
Btw, did the back up cam kit come with a relay? I remember my kit came with one.

Ed,
What kind of amplifiied antenna worked best for you? My camera did not come with a relay. I bought one locally and spent half the day trying to get it to work without any luck
Just to test the camera, I hooked up constant power to it and plugged in the RCA jack into the NAV-TV harness CAM-IN. Also hooked up the CAM TRIGGER wire to ground, but get no picture. The NAV screen blanks out but no picture! Could it be a defective camera?? :dunno:

You got me King. Its been a couple of years and all I remember was that the antenna had 4 lines. 2 TV signal outputs, one power wire and one ground wire.

Could be defective. :dunno: I'd have to see first hand but I do know that my kit came with a mini relay. I thought the trigger line get 12 volts instead of ground?

I carried a TV into the garage to test my camera, when I had the same issue. Hook it up like you would, but plug the video connection into the video in on the TV. If you get a pic the cam works and something is not right in your connections/relays (which is what my issue was).
Would love to hear more about a power antenna if anyone has one.
PS - also, if you have a trailer hitch, the wiring harness (inside the rear compartment along the bumper wall) is a good source of "reverse only" power that does not have the issue of "noise" that the regular reverse light has. The reg light has a sensor that sends the "I'm working signal to a processor, that results as noise in your picture).
