I am looking to plus up my wheels on my 92 525i, has anyone out there upgraded to 17 or 18'" and replaced the spare with the same size and if so did it fit in your wheel well (trunk). If not can you use the stock spare in an emergency with 17 or 18'" rims on the car. The biggest tire size I would go to is 235/40r 18s.. thanks

Even though you will be upgrading to larger diameter wheels, the overall diameter of the new tires will not be too much different than stock size tires. Original equipment on my car calls for 225-60-15 which has a diameter of about 25.5" depending on tire brand. On the front of my car I have 235-45-17 and on the rear I have 255-40-17 which both are about 25.4" in diameter. I still have the 15" basket weave spare in the trunk which won't be a problem in an emergency... might look funny though. It is important that all of the tires installed are close to the same diameter or your ABS system will detect a difference in speed and give you a light. Hope this helps you out some. Cheers!

Hi m3iceman, I have a 2002 530i Sport on 18's as standard, they come with a 16 alloy in the boot. I presume that as BMW provide this as standard setup in the UK then it must be OK..fortunately I have not needed to test it out yet. Don't forget if you put 18 x 8/9's on then a spare will take up a lot more boot/trunk space!
