View Full Version : Spongy brakes affecting clutch?

This is kinda long and I appologise:

I've been having some troubles with my clutch lately. It had the pressure plate problem and I got the new "updated" clutch with the TSB for a "click" in the clutch. So anyways... entirely new clutch pack. New problem. Now, when the car gets warmed up (20 mins or so of driving), the car makes a squeaking noise when you put the clutch in or out. It also affects shifting. Well, my dealer heard the noise when I brought the car in, but couldn't reproduce it the next day when they went to fix it. They of course didn't drive it long enough because it will sqeak EVERY TIME as long as the car warms up. The best I got out of them was a service form that says there are "issues" with the clutch and it will need to be replaced when it gets worse. Whatever. So I've been noticing my brakes are slightly spongy. I can "pump up" the pedal and this seems to help when shifting. Shifts are smoother and less jerky. The sqeak is still there though. When I take it in for oil service in 2900 miles, I will mention all of this to the dealer.

I wanted to see if any of you have had similar problems, or if anyone has any ideas as to what might be sqeaking and why my shifting might get worse as the car warms up. Thanks again!

the brakes and the clutch share fluid.

Just a guess, but it sounds like there may be air in the lines. Ask your dealer to bleed your brakes/clutch.

Yea, I figured as much. Anyone have any ideas what the sqeak could be?

lack of fluid in the master or slave cylinder. particularly likely in the slave cylinder given that they changed it.

A quick check of the master cylinder shows fluid up to the MAX line (a hair above actually). So the squeak could be caused by the lack of fluid in the slave cylinder? Is this common?
