I've decided to sell my fantastic 540i. I need a truck, and am ordering a new F-250. This car runs perfectly, and essentially has only 1 year's worth of miles. 13,xxx miles and factory warrenty through 03/07. I also purchased the BMW EXTENDED MAINTENANCE contract, good through 12/06. (This covers brakes, clutch, etc. and cost me $600)
Options include cold weather package, DSP, 17" alloys, electric rear sunshade. As you probably know, moonroof, xenon "angel eyes", M suspension, steering wheel, etc. are standard with this model. Excellent condition, never wrecked, etc -- and looks nicer than the new model.
The car is oxford green with sand beige interior. The green is a very dark metallic - people think it's black until they are close, and then you can see it's not - kind of a nice change from the silver & black which make up 80% of BMW's.
Sticker was $58500. I'm asking thousands under book (which is still over $40,000 private sale, $44,000 retail dealer (per KBB)) Check around - you won't find another late model E39 with this low of miles, with several years remaining warranty, for this price anywhere else.
PM me if interested or any questions. I'm in Quincy, IL - 2 hrs from St. Louis and 4 from Chicago.
Soon to be ZHP

I think you'll have an easier time trading it in on your truck or trading it on something that is saleable. Even though its a great car, "Green" Bimmers are almost impossible to re-sell at value. At least thats my observation in the West.

For what it's worth, I like the color. (I'm not giving the car serious consideration though.)

WOW, this is a fantastic deal. I'ld buy it if I did not have an '04 330C. Dark Green on tan is a great color combination. The tan is much better interior color than black or grey and the green goes great with tan. 540 power is awsome!!!!
Would you consider a serious offer for $36k (no more), and how far are you from Marion (I'll be there for T'giving next week)?

I just talked to the Ford dealer today. I'll be ordering my truck soon. They will give me at least $35000 trade in (can't be specific until they inspect it.) With the $2100 tax savings of the trade in, that's the same as me selling it for about $37100.
The dealer will obviously sell it for more than $35000. If anyone is interested, you'll have a month or so before my truck gets built and I purchase it - I'm hoping before Christmas. I'm willing to sell the car for my "trade in plus tax" value of $37100 - just so I don't have to mess with the whole trade in situation, and also to pass on a good deal.
Did the dealer put that trade-in value in writing? They will tell you anything to make a sale. If they say they will give you 35k when you trade the car in when the new one is delevered ask them to put it in writing. I'll bet you they won't because when your new car comes in and you go to trade in the 540 they'll give you some BS and tell you they have to give you couple thousand less then 35K and at that point with the new car in your sight are you really going to say no?

Yes,
The contract I signed to buy the truck stated the price I'm paying (invoice) minus applicable rebates, with the agreed upon trade in price. I'm willing to take a little less than $37000 for the car because I'd rather have the freedom to finance however I want, rather than having to use the dealership offered financing to pay off my BMW loan.
I wish you would've been around when we were in town last week (T'giving).
I had Anna all talked into letting me at least look over your 540i/6, and she albeit agreed that I could have it if I wanted it (if I could get it for 36.5, I figure it'd cost me 10k in real dollars).
Oh well, I'm sure you'll sell it in no time--it's a real nice ride.
Hey guys,
I was reading the thread and just wanted to pop in to put my $0.02 worth. I see you are mentionning $35k trade-in as equivalent to $37k with tax. But if I were you, I would arrange with the buyer to do what is called in the business as an "in and out the door in an hour".
Basicaly, the day you buy your truck, you and the buyer for the 540 show up at the dealership. The dealership buys the 540, gives you credit for the sales tax, and bills the new buyer for the bimmer. The dealership does not make money on it and you have to arrange that but it is common practice (I am sure adrian could confirm that on the Ask A Dealer). What it comes down to is you get a better price than trade in for the car, you get sales tax credit and the buyer does not have to pay a premium. Arranges everybody!

If you have a problem selling it, (I do not know why, great car!), buy anyway if you need cash, :bawling: you might try CarMax...they will buy it, even if you don't buy theirs,,but for how much $$$ will they give you for it??? :thumbdwn: (Probably not near enough, scratch the idea, but still nice Bimmer! :) )

Last offer, folks. The Ford dealer called today, and my truck should be here the last week of the month. If the Bimmer isn't sold before that I'll trade it in.

Is $36,500.00 the lowest you will take for your BMW? Because according to the Kelley Blue Book, the dealer trade in value on your 2002 540i in excellent condition with 13,000 miles is: $34,025.00, (SEE BELOW)
I wish you the best, and Good luck!

Don't forget the impact of tax savings! Here in RI, even at a $34,000 trade value, it would be equivalent to getting ~$36,400 in a private party sale due to the trade in tax credit.

Yep, the tax savings with the trade in is what makes a trade in reasonable. I could drop a couple hundred if there is a serious offer & deposit - but my trade in & tax savings value is already at least $36,000.

I just plugged the numbers into KBB myself - add sport package & premium sound, car in "excellent" condition, and I get $35900 trade in.

Kelley Blue Book Trade hyperlink I used to get the price for a 2002 BMW 540i: http://aolsvc.kbb.aol.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.uy?aol;;&;t&21&&ZIP
(Kelley Blue Book trade in Newport RI)
...This time I used a in RI like you said, and the Zip Code I got used was "02840" (NEWPORT RI) and the price I got was lower than yours, (Is that still the lowest price you will take? Or would you take Kelly Trade In Value of $35,475.00, :bawling: ? )
and I got: Trade-In Value $35,475 (SEE BELOW)

Consumer Rated Condition: Excellent
"Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. This vehicle has never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. The vehicle has a clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. The engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. The vehicle also has complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.
Trade-In Value $35,475
Trade-in Value is what consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in vehicle assuming an accurate appraisal of condition. This value will likely be less than the Private Party Value because the reselling dealer incurs the cost of safety inspections, reconditioning and other costs of doing business.

No,
As I mentioned above, my trade in plus tax savings values the car at least $36000. Although I'm not asking much over what's already guarenteed, (and THOUSANDS under private seller, let alone retail price) I certainly won't sell the car for less than my guarentee. I've already got a tentative offer of $36500 - but no deposit yet, and the car will stay on the market until a deposit is received.

I now have two people interested in the car, but no sure sale yet, so if you're interested, speak now - if the dealer is correct, my truck should be in next week. Thanks.

SOLD! Thanks for the helpful advice/info on this forum for the 6-7 months that I had the car. Now that I'm a "truck guy" again, I'll be frequenting FTE, but probably not back here again anytime soon. Thanks again.
