Looks like I'm going to get to order a company car again and have only 2 choices.
Ok, for most of you, this probably comes down to the love it or hate it looks of the Magnum. I think thats the hurdle I'm having trouble getting over.
I can order the Magnum in Cool Vanilla(White), Magnesium Pearl (Sort of a seafoam) or Midnight Blue Pearl Tires are 215/65/17
The Impala I can get in White, Bright red, Silver or a Medium Gray. Tires are 225/60/16

I cant add anything to the Base car so no aluminum wheels, no Hemi's, no AWD. So remember this is not the loaded Magnum you see on the TV commercials. It won't even come with tinted windows. Both have a decent factory AM/FM/CD and bolt on wheel covers.
Either car I would add XM radio and tint the windows and thats all I'm going to pay for on a car I' don't own.

The Impala is such a POS. ANY Magnum has to be better than that.

You gotta go with the Magnum. Sadly. Midnight blue might make it look less obvious than the other 2 colors. Black would be the best choice.

Hey, love it or hate it... people will know when you've arrived in the Magnum. The Impala is the "invisible car."

Another vote for the Magnum. I drove a Magnum V6 before they started selling them (had a teaser at the local dealer) - much better car than the Impalas I've had in the rental fleets. The Impala is so old/low tech/dated it isn't funny.

I'd go with the midnight blue - I've seen the vanilla color and it doesn't work for me. Haven't seen a magnesium pearl one so can't comment on that.

Just watch the sight lines in the Magnum - those rear windows are not easy to see out of.

Given the 2 choices, I'd go with the Magnum in blue too. I kind of like the styling (but not a lot), and having the wagon could come in handy. The Chevy IS the definition of a POS.

Magnum.

A nice V6 and RWD. Isn't it based on the MB's E-Class anyway?

just to play devils advocate....2 good things about the Impala:

1.it's stealth. although it's not fast, you could fly on the hwy an no one would notice

2.Get a white one. Put a roof rack on it. maybe a spotlight by the driver's side mirror. Watch the traffic part like the red sea :bang:

suppose the question is whether or not they have them in OK :p

(HPD has a bunch of them)

Don't have em around here so nobody would ever move over for an Impala. The city PD here has Crown Vics and Impalas. Its probably hard to find a light/dark blue model like the city ones though... They also have a couple of unmarked Impalas they use for the detectives and revenue enhancement, er, I meant traffic enforcement. The favorite color for those is a brown***** color :p

The only redeeming quality of impalas is returning them to the rental counter.

I've rented both.

The Magnum has it in the looks and quality department, but the Impala seemed faster than the base Magnum.

If it were me, I'd pick the Magnum.

God, the Magnum makes the Impala look halfway decent.

You must be the lone Impala vote. Having driven Impala rentals, I'd take almost anything else. The magnum isn't as bad as the pictures, and drives so much better isn't not worth talking about. Shell out for a set of dub's and the magnum is styling. Just remember to put the original wheels back on when giving it back.

A rebodied E-class with a multivalve V6 is better than a FWD GM POS.

You must be the lone Impala vote.

I haven't driven the Impala, and I just can't cast a vote for the Magnum, so I'm abstaining. That was a purely aesthetic comment.

I'm the Impala vote. Just wanted to shake things up . Plus I'd be drivin' around scarin the hell out of ppl flashing my cop-car high beams at them :fruit:

(inconsequential anyway - the title of the thread says it all)

I'd go with the Magnum in blue too. .
And Blue is the color I would take. I'm just having trouble getting over it being a wagon. With the Impala, it screams 'company car--I didn't purchase this'. The Magnum says ' I think I have a hot car but it looks goofy'.
But I
know the magnum is a better car. And the 2.7l V6 is what I had in my 2001 Stratus Company car a few years ago and it's a pretty decent motor (24valve DOHC). It's reassuring to see that a bunch of 'festers dont thinkit too ugly to drive.

If given the choice i'd ask myself if it was really worth having a company car. :p I find them both to be hideous looking, however a free trip from point A to B, I like the looks of the Impala better. I've never driven either of them so I'm basing my vote purely on looks alone.

The one thing I really do like about the Magnum is the near total absence of front overhang.

It's BMW-like in that respect.

I don't love the Magnum, but the impala is SUCH a POS. I rented one similar to the one you're buying a few weeks ago, and couldn't wait for the experience to be over. Granted it is sort of fun to wathc people move out of your way on the highway- but htat's about it. RWD and a half-way decent suspension trumps a FWD pig anyday.

Magnum.

I flew out for an interview once and got an Impala as a rental car. God I hated that car. The car made me feel like a 75 year old man with an AARP card.

Seems like I rented an Impala a year or two ago and was shocked at how little improvement there was from the 1970, 1972 and 1985 Impalas my dad had (when new)

Yet another Magnum vote.

I found out the hard way that if you try to power-brake a Impala (it was a hertz rental), the computer will put the car into "limp" mode for about 15 seconds.. won't let you exceed something like 10mph.

This thread's so old the Impala has gone through a new model (Still a POS though). So, I wonder what the OP eventually got? Now, he'd probably be able to get a Charger, so it even be less of a choice.
