To my fellow BMW enthusiats:

I am reaching out to all forums I belong to, so please forgive the non-BMW listing.

I am in charge of selling my family's classic Corvette due to a terminal illness to the owner, my Brother-in-Law. Please forward to anyone you think might be interested. Thank you for any and all help.

Here's the simple website I created to list the car's details and pictures (download warning to dial-up ISPs):

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ed.han/1967corvette427ci400hpcoupe/

My email and phone are on the web page if anyone wishes to discuss the details.

Best regards,
Dave H.

Thank's for the kind words, guys.

You should feel the temptation I have to drive it. Since it arrived just before Thanksgiving, I take it out for a cruise every few days. All I can say is that there's no substitute for cubic inches!

Ah, to have been of driving age during the 60's......

What's the saying? There's no replacement for displacement! Absolutely beautiful! I'd like to refurb a 1972 big-block one day, after I'm done remodeling my house.

I wish I were of driving age back then as well. One of my uncles had a car like this, though I don't recall the exact specs, but I'm sure he didn't appreciate it and killed it somehow. Butthead.

Best of luck with the sale. I'm sure a collector somewhere will be interested. E-mail Jay Leno. :-)

Not trying to start a flame here but the price is way too high for a non original motor and non orignal tranny car. For this price, one should expect fully Concours, NCRS restoration/certified/top flight, complete with original matching numbers. Don't think that the car will ever move at the $85K number. Good Luck!

pfoutz:

With all due respect, I take great offense to your post. I will take some time here to educate you about the facts relating to your statement and why I think you should think first, before you write:

(1) For your information, NCRS Flight Judging doesn't certify anything. They judge against a known standard-which is "how the car should have appeared as it left the showroom". NCRS allows restamping of engines because that is restoration. They do not, however, allow changing a small block car into a big block car. That is counterfeiting.

If I wanted to, I could take this block, have the VIN# decked and restamped, and the current transmission/engine would pass NCRS standards as original. I could fully disclose to the judges the fact the engine was restamped because NCRS guidelines state that this is restoration, so why would you pay more money for a car just because it is NCRS Top Flight or the "numbers" match?

For example, the cast dates on my block are 1967 already. Would you be able to tell if I had the VIN# restamped by a pro? I don't think so. Even some top level NCRS judges have been fooled before. It is quite the business today to buy interior trimplates or have them made so you can change your lowly small block into a big block car. I am completely upfront with the way this car stands-and against any restamping of any engine.

Last point on "numbers matching". How far down the rabbit hole are you prepared to go for matching numbers? Did you know that almost every component on the car has a part number and date code? I am talking driveline, wheels, wires, headlights, window glass, seat belts, etc. Why would you look for matching engine/VIN# only when the rest could be out of date and the car is worthless for shows?

(2) The price of $85K is a $50K deduct from Barrett-Jackson's January 2004 auction price for "original matching numbers" big block cars. These cars regularly went for $110K to $135K depending on options. I am scheduled to have this car in the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction in April of this year. Come down and see it for yourself before you throw your opinion about the worth of a car you have never seen. I would even take the time to show you all the items that make up my pricing decision so you could understand for yourself.

I fully expect the potential new owner will be able to have this car judged at NCRS shows and come out borderline Top Flight or solid Second Flight as is. I have all the NCRS judging manuals for the 1967 year so I know exactly where the deducts will come from. If the new owner wishes to drive the car around for personal enjoyment, they can without the loss in any value. If they want to invest some time and effort as a NCRS or Bloomington hobbyist, they can have a car that has all the right stuff and can get them a trailer show queen. This car wasn't intended to show but it will do very well as is. My pricing reflects that standard very closely.

(3) This car has a complete history and pedigree of documentation (including the original tank sticker) for 26 years. Some of the "Belles of the Ball" from the auctions are bought without any documentation.

I am venting here, but again, please educate yourself before you throw your opinion around. You may cause undue harm to someone wishing to sell a car.

If you're already slated to sell it at an auction and confident it will fetch your asking price, why spam forum message boards with it?

10% with reserve
8% without reserve
Plus incidentals such as pre-inspection,. tent space, tips etc.
That's why I would like to sell it to someone before the auction.

Plus, to get a little personal, my sister needs the money for caring for my Brother-in-Law, who's in a coma for 6 months now. Insurance is looking for her to pay for some of the expenses now. That's the only reason I don't keep it for her-I don't have that kind of money for a toy in the garage.

Dave, sorry to hear about your Brother-in-Law. I hope you get the money together that will help him.

@ jw

I respectfully disagree. We don't consider this as spam, just a legit sales thread. If we had the feeling that it's spam, we would already have removed it.

I'm sorry I piped off earlier this morning. I'm just not in a great spirit this time of year. I need to apologize to phoutz. He probably meant no harm and I went off on a tirade

Perhaps I used the wrong word. From what he said he mass posted this to all forums he belongs to. I'm assuming many others than the 'Fest.

I don't consider it spam in a Classifieds forum either. Hence the reason why I wouldn't and didn't report the post. Mass message is more like it.

In my experience of buying and selling through antique auctions (3 times so far) is that they fetch a higher price and negates the difference by far of the commission.
