Folks: I bought my 325i in Feb 2002. I am deciding whether to take the maintenance warranty extension or not. Seems to be a good idea since the cost of Inspection I and brakes (will go bad once before 100K) alone might justify it.
I am planning to get the 6yr or 100K miles extension. I am in the DC Area. Where would you recommend me taking the extension. Looking for the best deal for the plan.
Thanks.

Thanks.I purchased the 6yr / 100k maintenance plan extension (not the warranty as i already have CPO on my car... the maintainance plan just covers your maintenance needs for the 6yr /100k time period) awhile back from Ted at Carbone BMW and was pleased with his responsiveness and price... Ted is no longer there, but he identified a successor... here is a link that has more info about it...

Don't know about DC, but all my local dealers wanted $2000+ for the 6-year plan.

Thats on a higher side. I am still searching to better the $1400 that I was quoted. If anyone knows a dealership I should be calling, please let me know.

If you are on the Maryland side of DC take it to Passport off Rte 5 (Capital Heights). They usually always have the best prices and service. VA side?????

2004 325i. I got it from BMW of Dallas, so it's OEM ( :bawling: too bad it's not in your area though). The sales lady said that it was an awesome deal, I didn't really know since they hadn't quoted me the $1,400 that they are asking a lot of people. Good Luck on finding you a good deal on the warranty.

khhong: that explains the price. Price lower for newer vehicles. Also newer comes with 4yr maintenance therefore plan has to cover less mileage as for 2002 where it has to cover from 3yr/36K to 100K. But thanks for replying.
Enigma: Yes, I am in VA. I bought the car from VOB. Passport surely was most competitive with regards to maintenance pricing, but am getting better price from Ted's referral.

Here's what my dealer quoted me, Verbatim:
"BMW charges $1,199 for a 6yr 100k Full Maintenance Upgrade. The cost
for an extended service contract extension (extended warranty) same term
and miles is $2,423. You can vary the extended warranty coverage from
5yrs 75k to 7yrs 100K."
Does this sound right to you guys?

question is when to do it. If you purchase it and won't need it for a few years all you are doing is protecting yourself against a price increase and the possibility that they will discontinue the program. On the other hand, they have your money for a long time plus if you sell the car to a private party they will no doubt want to transfer it to them but I doubt that you will see the money back in the price you get. I'm going to wait and see how many miles I have and if I still have the car when it is getting close to the end of the new car warranty/maintenance.

Yes that makes sense to me. But it also depends on the yr of the car. For 2003 this may be right but for 2002 it might be more. What yr is your car? And which dealer told you that? Did you buy the upgrade?

did you already check with Sterling BMW in VA...i always delt with them, i found them to be the best dealer as far as service goes on the VA side....and they were fair with the price....they do give a 10% discount on parts to BMW CCA members, not sure if that would work for warranties though? good luck!

Saurabm, this would be for a 2005 new build car (330i). Also, what's really the difference between the two plans? Obvioulsy I'd rather go for the cheaper plan if at all possible (spending an extra 2300 is a lot of money).
Thx

I got mine via the internet & paid roughly $2000 for extended Warranty to 7/100. The dealer wanted $2500 for the same. They said it was all factory BMW parts etc, however, when reading the fine print, they did not specify, so I went with the cheaper one. The warranty plans can get more expensive the longer you wait since it is easier to insure a new car vs an older car (at least, that's what they told me).
As for the Maintenance plan, my dealer quoted me $1200 to extend and that i can do it at any time-even at the end of my current maintenance agreement which is what I plan on doing-to see how many miles I have on it by the end of my term.

iceman: maintenance renewal is totally separate from warranty renewal. Maintenance is for ol changes, Inspection I, brake pads, etc...Warranty is for suspension and big things like that...
For my research I am only looking to upgrade the maintenance and not warranty
I am getting $1344 for my 2002 325i and trying to find out if someone can beat that.

Agree with you on their service. But checked with them first. They are the most expensive and not willing to budge from their price. Very strange. Any contact there?

It's a 2004 with the 4 year maintenance pkg. I believe the extension is to 6 or 7 years and 100k miles??? Not sure, might be less.
And ff, it isn't just the oil/filter change. You know that and I know you're just trying to stir up the pot. :thumbdwn:
Anyway, well worth it in my opinion. I've used my 'free' maintenance program twice already. Once when my wipers started to skip at about 5000 miles and again at about 6000 miles when my oil light came on. I was about half quart low. Nice and easy. Could I have done it myself? No doubt about it. But, I could cook all of the time too, but, it sure is nice to go out for a nice dinner every now & then!!!
