Help..! My dealer actually said they could NOT sell me something!!!
While on the lift, I noticed that my bell-housing was missing a 1x2 inch rubber service plug. This is a rubber plug the tech removes to visually inspect the torque converter and all the goods within the bell-housing… Knowing that a 1x2 opening exposing my drive train to the elements was not good I went to the dealer to purchase a replacement…. The parts dept claimed that that was not a part they could get???? What gives is this possible?
Where can I turn for this part?
Thanks-
Kevin

Where can I turn for this part?1) Is your car under warranty? If so, they should fix it unless they can show that this was caused by some action on your part. If that means they need to order a whole housing, that's between them and BMW.
2) If for some reason you still need to purchase the part, can you be more specific as to what the problem is?
a) they can't determine the correct part number
b) they got a part number, the BMW parts system shows a price, but none are in stock
c) they got a part number, but the BMW parts system doesn't show a price
d) they got a part number, but the BMW parts system says that number isn't valid
e) something else
Post what info you have and we'll take a crack at it. Note that some part assemblies are purchased fully-assembled from a vendor and components aren't available - moonroof plastic guides are a notorious example.

Thanks for your reply. I will post a pic asap. Also, 65K so no warranty...
Thank you-
Kevin

You could also try a junk yard or contact someone who is parting out an X5. For example, here's one on eBay being parted out, try sending a question to the seller - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7945947974&category=6763
Good luck!

My dealer is Fields BMW in Orlando. This am just after 7am I was contacted by the parts department to inform me that they did place an order for part they believe it will be the fix I need…. Silly little $3 part ;-) Fields has always been good to me. Just found it strange that the dealer would not be able to get parts….
