So last night at about 12:15am I was following some of my mates around the suburban streets near to where I live. Well I misjudged a corner and took it a little to fast and, well, i smashed into the curb pretty hard. I missed a street pole by about half a meter (phew!) but the left front side of my car smashed striaght into the gutter, forcing my wheel into the body of the car, breaking my suspension (and probably other mechanical things) and dinting my side panel and body kit. There was also some damage to the body kit at the front and my front left BMW M3 wheel has seen better days.

It was undrivable because the wheel hardly moved forward and you couldnt steer it. My mate in front of me saw it in his rear view mirror and got out to help. After about 5 minutes, there was about 8 or 9 of my friends standing around it. How embarising.

At about 1 am the tow truck arrived to tow it away. There was no real spot on my car for the dude to hook the rope in to get it on the truck so he had to tie it round the front body kit. As he was pulling it up the front wheel was struggling to move and the front body kit started to come off due to the wieght of the car. It was a painfull sight watching it partially tear away from the car :( . He managed to eventually get it up there. I guess it was the only way. Lucky I have comprehensive insurance

This is the first crash I've ever had and I'm pretty pissed off and upset about it. Has anyone got any car crash stories they can share to help me feel better?

Here are some photo's of my poor baby that my friend took. I know its not a big crash but for me it really sucks.

:( that really sucks! looks like you'll be in for rather a lot of repairs. Sounds like the accident was your fault though (for insurance purposes), so if you get them to pay for it they'll raise your premiums. Get a quote and see....probably let the insurance pay for this one though...this is gonna be thousands and thousands of dollars (US).

Well the company that towed the car is an approved repairer of my insurance company and they pretty much deal with the whole process till its back in my hands which is good.

Bummer! Thank god for insurance. I didn't realize you could put M3 wheels on a non-M e46. I'll be looking for wheels in the future so this is good to know. Did you have to do anything to get them to fit right? Are they 18's or 19's?

that sux man! i hope things work out....

mihiggi02: only front m3 wheels can be fit on non-Me46 models...so you've gotta find 4 of them!

Here ya go Mate, hope this makes ya feel better! The damage was over 15k CDN, for some reason they wanted to change the Xenons! Anyway, we get it back on Wednesday or thursday with any luck. I can take back that crappy brand new Murano. Amazing how much better a 3.0 BMW is than a 3.5 Nissan, eh?

Thanks Stew. A bit of bad luck there for you. Mine is getting quoted today so I don't yet know what the bill will be for the insurance company.

I read your post and you mentioned that you only got it in November. I also got mine in November. Sucks only having the car 2 months and then crashing it hey.

Well my car is gonna be about 2 weeks away :(

Looks like I'll be catching a lift to work for the next little while.

The front body kit had some scratches and some very minor damage along the bottom before the accident due to the previous owner scraping it when comming out of driveways etc. The guy at the panel beaters said that it will be all fixed up and will look as good as new.

I was gonna get that fixed up myself but now im paying for it the more expensive way. The excess I have to pay is $850 Australian (which equates to approx $550-600US). Plus my insurance premium goes up to about $2300 for the next year compared to about $1550. I hate being so young and having to pay so much for my insurance.

next time you need a tow, look in your trunk. There is a tow hook that you screw into your front or rear bumper. If you look at your bumper, there is an offset out of place looking cap, pop it off and you'll see where you can screw in the hook
