This is kind of embarrasing. I don't know if it's because I can't find it, or it's not there, but there seems to be a glaring omission on the Bimmerfest website...

I am looking for a link to give to newbies to explain what Bimmerfest is. There is a thread from last year that was titled "What is Bimmerfest (for newbies)", which actually does NOT answer that question!? The thread does contain a URL for an alleged story about Bimmerfest. Unfortunately, that link appears to be dead.

Anybody know a good link to hand out to people who have never been to nor heard of Bimmerfest?

What is this Bimmerfest All About?

<HR><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=10 width="95%" align=center border=0>*******>*******><TR><TD>Welcome to the launch of Bimmerfest.com, the official site dedicated to the events that celebrate the New Age of BMW Enthusiasm. Wow! The Ultimate Modern Expression of Passion for Our Beloved BMW Brand… Bimmerfest is the alternative to your ordinary car club event. More like the “M-version” if you will… The spirit of the inaugural Bimmerfest event (hosted by Cutter Motors in 2000) was merely to share our appreciation for, and to give something back to the Internet-based community of BMW enthusiasts. Several hundred turned out to participate. What made the event so special (among other things) was purely the ability for many “virtual” online buddies to come together, and actually meet “in-vivo”. To show off their cars, to share their views, their dreams and fantasies (about future models, and modifications), and to make meaningful connections with other BMW fanatics. Bimmerfest participants tended to be of the more “tech-savvy” variety. They were brought together solely and entirely through electronic means (e.g. Internet message board/discussion group postings, email lists, ...etc.). The initial event was (arguably) a huge success. It has now evolved into so much more… http://www.e46fanatics.com/phorum/images/icon/smile.gif

What are the key elements of Bimmerfest?

http://www.bimmerfest.com/i/events_images/tn_1_2.jpg (http://www.bimmerfest.com/picturepage.php?imagename=1_2) The Caravans – Just getting there is half of the fun! At our events, groups from all over the State converge in caravans, and all arrive together. The “Southern Group” begins their journey in San Diego (at 5:00) am), with stops in Orange County, West Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and finally, Ventura County, each time picking up additional participants. Imagine a hundred BMWs all driving together (in a hurry). Hell’s Angels on Harley-Davidsons had better watch out! J It is quite a spectacle seeing them all pull in to the event together (250 miles later)…

Some people opt to skip the caravans altogether, and have their own “pre-parties” the night before… (Click here (http://www.eagleglenonline.com/bmw/images/bimmerfest/bimmerfest.html) for more for images)

The “Nor Cal Contingent” usually arrives the night before as well…

** Also see the online article at Overboost (http://www.overboost.com/feature.asp?id=371) **
http://www.bimmerfest.com/i/events_images/tn_1_7.jpg (http://www.bimmerfest.com/picturepage.php?imagename=1_7) The BimmerFest Road Rally – As a group, Bimmerfest participants rally in a wild parade of sorts (within the speed limit, of course) during a drive lasting about an hour… For our first Bimmerfest event we chose a “back roads mountain drive”.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/i/events_images/tn_1_8.jpg (http://www.bimmerfest.com/picturepage.php?imagename=1_8) For the second annual event we drove a more conventional coast highway route that doubled back through a rugged mountain pass… It is quite a challenge (but well worth it) to keep a group this large moving together on the road. The objective is neither speed, nor performance driving. Just a giant caravan for fun (and to scare the living daylights out of law enforcement)…http://www.e46fanatics.com/phorum/images/icon/smile.gif
The Ultimate Bimmer Competition – A contest or competition based on very loose (and entirely subjective) guidelines as to what constitutes “The Ultimate Bimmer”. We usually select a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Awards are donated by Bimmerfest vendors. As host, Cutter Motors awards gift certificates redeemable towards genuine BMW, or aftermarket parts and accessories to the winners. (Click here (http://www.jimmy540i.com/cutter2001.htm) for more!)
How will Bimmerfest.com make the event and the enthusiast community better in the future?

Bimmerfest.com will provide BMW fanatics across the United States (and around the world some day?) an online location where invitations and announcements of upcoming events can be posted and shared by enthusiasts everywhere. In addition, reports and photographs, stories and accounts of experiences can be shared. Consider Bimmerfest.com to be the quintessential meeting place for those looking to get together and share their passion for the BMW Brand with others like themselves… It can also be an incredible resource for finding more information about the products and services provide by those who support Bimmerfest (such as the performance tuners), as well as how to contact them.
