After years of wasting my time and driving a honda civic and hating every day that I had to drive somewhere, I am finally going to purchase a bimmer. I found one that is a 1993 325i. Cosmetically, this car is perfect. A little fading of the paint (which is expected for a 12 year car) is the only noticeable blemish really. I checked the engine, and it looks brand new. Only has 75k original miles on it. Is there anything that I should have checked out first mechanical wise to avoid any future financial binds? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

i sugg test driving it if you havent already done so, diddnt see any mention of that in your post. not trying to be a smart ass about it, but a lot can be told about the drive. also remember if the engine looks good physically either means two things, one, car is kept up and owner has taken care of it, or two, maybe owner is trying to present "cleaner" image then whats left in the car.
just playing devils advocate either way you will expect issues with car over 10 years old. just make sure oil was changed regularly and all scheduled maintenance. good luck with purchase

I took it out for a good half hour. Did some street driving and freeway driving, and both handled very well. Guy had all maintenance records and everything, the car seems really solid.

one thing you might want to check is the rear subframe they are prone to cracking on that year..

My mom used to have a 1993 BMW 325i, the car had nothing but electrical problems. The problem wasn't only with ours but a lot of people had the same problems. The 1993 model year 3 series had a lot engine and electrical problems. Before buying the car I would check the car out throughly, you might want to send it to BMW for a check up. If I were you i would look at 94+ they have a much better reliablity record. We had spent close to $10,000(CDN) fixing all the problems with the car, since new. We bought the car brand-new, and kept it until 1997 when my mom bought a 1998 Volvo S70 2.5 SE, we got a good trade in value for the 325i $14,500(CDN) with 150,000km. I guess this car payed off at the end. Now being about 12 years old, i don't know how worst these cars have gotten. I hope if you do decide to buy this car, hope this isn't a lemon like most of the 1993 models are. :)

Hi,
From personal experience, I just think its a bad idea to buy a BMW with so many miles on it. I have a 96 328i with 90k on it. I have had nothing but trouble with it for the past two years.
Its normal for a car with 75k on it to have some wear and tear but the problem with bimmers is that they are so expensive to repair.

He said he bought a 12 year old 1993 car. Either he can't count or post is old. Simple.
