Sure hope that Cal Trans gets San Marcos Pass repaired
in the wake of recent storms, otherwise our traditional route
is in jeopardy... :eeps:

Don't worry Jon,

I know another route... The road may be a bit rough....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but both SR-154 and Old San Marcos Rd. will not be accessable by Bimmerfest time. The other alternative of going up Hwy 1 to Lompoc and back across SR-246 to Buellton might be an option but no guaruntee on that either. The rains have wrecked havoc on our roads in the Santa Ynez Valley and more to come:(

It just occurred to me that if San Marcos Pass is still inoperable come April, we could make the Road Rally destination be Neverland Ranch. Can you just imagine Jacko's response to having 750 - 1,000 Bimmers pull up to his driveway?? Photo op?

From there we could just backtrack to S.B. down the coast on 101.

Thoughts?

Damn those rainstorms.

Uh, hehe, I think that second photo you included there was actually taken by me, not Shinobi ;) (unless we happened to be standing in the exact same spot):

Not a problem. :)

Of course I'll be there. I wouldn't miss out on Bimmerfest! I'll have to remember to bring some cash this time--the vendors had some good deals last year.

i dont have the exact route down but.. what about taking foothill back behind montecito through carp. through the hills to the lake casitas ojai area.. (or is that pass going to be closed as well?).. not sure how it would work exactly, but its just an idea.. i wouldnt want to miss driving in my first fest because 154 is closed

Good News! I have it on excellent authority that SR-154 (San Marcos Pass) will be open by the middle of Feb. So it looks like the traditional route is available. The road crews have been doing an awesome job and that hole depicted in the pic above is completely filled in and is almost ready for paving!

Ahead of schedule, Highway 154 is expected to reopen on Wednesday, delighting motorists who have dealt with nightmarish commutes since mudslides washed out the road on San Marcos Pass a month ago.

Ken

Ken, do you still have the E30 M3, not to mention the "2-wheeler"? :D

chpahoy
02-09-2005, 12:34 AM
Yeah, I still have the M3. Had it for sale briefly and the wife had a fit! She wants it to stay so who am I to argue. I pretty much just finished my 316 so this will be the first chance to "show"it off. Look for me and the car with the e21 crowd.
