Hello,
just wondering if you had OEM navigation system with your x5 or just bought OEM unit and looking for someone to install it?

I don't think you can install OEM Nav unit unless you have/had them with your X5
you should go with aftermarket one.

I think that King installed OEM NAV from scratch, if I recall correctly. Major project.

Sure you can install NAV from scratch! I have done it in my 540i and my X5! Both work excellent and you would never know the difference! Let me know if you need any help. I did some extensive research before I started the project and I can save you months of headaches trying to get things working and the right parts ordered. It's not difficult if you're willing to invest the money and a long weekend into the project.

Sure, it can be done. King has done the retrofit, as has Joe Puma - see http://x5world.net/jpuma_nav_retrofit.htm

aww, my dealer told me that if I don't get it nav from factory then there is no way to install factory unit.
that's why I had to order to build one and waited for 6 weeks?!!

If I was getting a new X5 and wanted nav then there is no way that I would go the retrofit route for several reasons. Namely, cost (cheaper to get from the factory), time (labor intensive because a new wiring harness is needed), and warranty. You made the right choice by ordering one instead.

thanks for your help guys. i seen Kings install on X5World a couple weeks ago. and just hoping there was maybe a shop someone knew that could do the install for me. it looks like a big job. I give props to King for that mod. the insallation must have been a pain in the a$$, but i know it was worth it :bigpimp:

As long as you are comfortable taking apart your vehicle, it's not really that bad. The biggest pain in the butt was finding the right parts, part numbers, resources and documentation. There was nobody to help me when I did my retrofit. Even Joe Puma was half way through his install and we helped each other...kinda' like the blind leading the blind! But now you have all the info at your disposal, step by step pics, all the part numbers, etc. :drink:
Pay me to fly down, and I won't charge you for the install, as long as you have all the parts! :bigpimp:

I had the exact same question and was answered in this Thread (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81356) which also included other information regarding the nav unit install.
