View Full Version : Anyone using Rogue RSMs? Ext-adjust rear Konis?

I've been thinking about getting a set of Konis for my wagon. I'm not interested in lowering the car or anything, and the stock shocks aren't in bad shape yet. But I like that they're adjustable (I had them in my old car) and I want to tweak the damping in the rear. And my research seems to indicate that if I want to keep my stock springs, Bilsteins might be overdamped.

I like the top-adjustable rears like what GC and TCKR sell, but I also discovered that these have 12mm shafts instead of 10mm like stock. I'm running E46M3 OE mounts now, but the way the OE mounts are made, they're not really modifiable to get 12mm (basically you end up drilling out the center steel, which pretty much destroys it).

So the solution is aftermarket mounts (man, this is getting $$$). I've seen some cars with aftermarket mounts (even 'street' ones) that add a lot of impact harshness and noise, so I've been wary of them in the past. I'm looking at the RE ones, since they have the added benefit of being bottom mount as well.

Any thoughts? Any alternative ideas? Changing ride height and/or putting in stiffer springs is something I really want to avoid for a multitude of reasons, so something like coilover kits are out.

I have the blue TCKR RSMs with the RE reinforcement plates ($35) and I don't think they add any NVH. That being said, you should be able to go with any RSM with a rubber bushing. I think the GC plates are bottom mount also. In addition, Turner Motorsport and JTD sell a variety of RSMs.

I'm aware of the piles of different RSMs on the market. I was particularly unimpressed with the GC ones I've seen, though.

I have the GCs (full-plate as opposed to the half plate that's needed on convertibles, and some other cars) and am happy with them. In full-stiff position, I haven't really noticed any increase in noise. There may be an increase in noise, but it's in the noise, so to speak. If I have the rear seats folded down, I think I may have heard the polyurethane squeak.

What don't you like about about the GCs?

Whichever one you end up getting, bottom-mounts are the best: I can remove rear springs and shocks in less than 20 minutes after the car is on jackstands.

I have Rogue RSMs and the quality is top notch. I love how you can take out the shocks from the outside of the car instead of taking all the trunk liners apart to do that!

I drill out the OE RSM's all the time for people because the aftermarket ones aren't allowed in Stock, it is tricky but not all that big a deal if you know what you're doing, of course you have to destroy one or two before you know what you're doing

ps: you should have bought my Z4 shocks for your E46 :dunno:
