This is not on one of the BMWs but I figure someone would know.

I had to fix a gash on the hood of my truck. I touched it up but when i went to sand it down with 2000 grit paper and water, I mistakenly dulled some of the finish around the spot. Should I just use some polishing compounding to shine that back up, or do I have more to do to fix it? The color is black so it shows the dull area nicely.

Any help appreciated.

Yup, Thats the way to fix a paint chip.
1. Fill with paint
2. Sand with 1500-2000 grip wet sand paper
3. Polish to remove sanding marks.(two differant polishes may be needed to bring surounding paint back to full gloss)
4.Protect with wax or sealant
