I need to find out who has used what tires, what they're happy with and what they're not. I want to go All-Seasons that are rated high for snow travel. Anybody used an A/S that they were happy with in the snow?

Running these on 18x8.5 wheels, current tire is 235/50zr. Positive or negative I'd like to hear it.

Do you ever have to climb hills?

I'm using the Toyo Proxes4 these days. Great tire in the dry and in the rain. Mediocre in the snow as compared to other all seasons. They turn and brake great, but acceleration in the white stuff is not their strong suit.

I previously had a set of Sumitomo HTR+ tires and they were just phenomenal in snow. They were "okay" in the dry. I liked them a LOT.

I grew up in Wisconsin and drove my RX-7 on all seasons year round (when it wasn't on r-comps, LOL) and really see no reason for snow tires in this area.

Yes I definitely will be tackling hills. My travel takes me through the Rockies to Aspen and through the Wasatch range into Salt Lake City. I have too much highway travel and would burn up snow-tires.
What was the life of the Sumitomo's that you ran?
I have read that Conti Xtreme's have trouble flatspotting - is this more of an annoyance or a serious problem?
Kumho ASX? Thanks for the help.

I'm running the Sumitomo's and to date have almost 10K miles on them and they hardly have any tread wear showing.

I bought them to handle the snow we get here and we have just had one of the mildest winters on record. :thumbdwn: They also are very resistant to hydroplaining by really moving the water away.

Their downside is the rubber compound is rather slipery on wet surfaces and the sidewalls are pretty soft. I knew I was in for some softer tires by going A/S, but these are the pits compared to summer tires.

True true true. The sidewalls are very soft. If you're used to A/S tires, you won't mind. If you're coming from good performance tires you'll notice it.

Looking at my records, I got 30k miles of driving out of them. I'm known to be a bit spirited, though. :eeps:
