View Full Version : will 1996-97 318 engine fit a 1992 318

I am a proud but not so happy owner of a 1992 318is. Couple mths ago my timing chain
idler broke. So needless to say I need a motor. I have just recently found one but its from
a 1997 or possibly 1996; can anyone tell if this will just bolt up?And even so do any changes need to be made????

The 92 318i had the M42 engine. The 97 had the M44 engine. It'll bolt right up, but you'll probably need the wiring harness, etc. Best to contact an reputable indy mechanic.

I have no connection with this seller but it sure looks like a deal and includes the electronic parts.
