I see alot of people poping up in certain threads, and thought I would get a thread going to join everyone together! I see a ton of BMW's in SE Michigan all the time, so I know you are here. I'd like to have some get togethers during the summer months and get to know some of you. Maybe some picnics at one of the Metro Parks, planned drives through some of the senic roads, and general networking events.
Any takers want to chime in!
I'm from Ann arbor/Ypsi area. I drive a Orient Blue 330i! I work in the automotive industry as a vehicle dynamics test engineer, and I love anything to do with cars.... car shows, detailing, racing.................everything.

I'll be there in the afternoon. Visited the NYC show already, so I've already been exposed to the E90, but the Detroit event still should make for a good photo op.

"Somewhere between Ann Arbor and Hell Michigan" I know them roads pretty well. That is where I do a lot of my public road testing. N. Territorial >Hadley >Unadilla >Doyle >Patterson Lake >Hankerd >N. Territorial back to Hadley! It's known as the Car & Driver 10 Best Course. Drive it sometime, It's pretty fun!
As for the job... it's only a job... it becomes WORK after the initial excitment wears off.

I would really like to get a get-together going in SE Michigan. Matbe a cookout at one of the MetroParks or something. If anything, it would be a good networking tool just to meet some new faces in other industries.
Any takers. I know Wheel-man is out...he moved to Texas.

I'm in Dearborn right now -- looking to purchase a condo/townhouse farther out from the city in the next 9-12 months. My current driver is a '03 VW GTI 1.8T, although if I can find a clean E30 325is or 318is, I might pick one up as a 2nd car. The GTI is mostly stock for now, doesn't get driven much, and unfortunately doesn't stay very clean  . I work in the auto industry doing Powertrain Development.
Wouldn't mind getting a group of european cars together and doing a nice drive. I'm relatively new to SE MI (moved last spring from Chicago), so I'm still learning the area.

Well, I just washed & waxed my 325i and drove it around for a while simply because it felt so darn good on this incredibly beautiful day. I always think we appreciate a day like today so much in Michigan because they're so rare: clear skies, sunshine, temps in the 60s. What more could you want? If it were like this every weekend, we wouldn't feel so good when it does happen.
By the way, the small pics here and in the My Garage section were just taken today over at Oakland University, near where I live. The wheels & tires are new additions. I went from 16" to a 17" setup with these; anything over 17" would be brutal on these roads around here. ;)

I've been perusing these boards for nearly two years now and was wondering when I would meet some fellow SE Michigander's. Test_Engineer, the day you posted this original thread I was staying at the Bayerischer Hof and exploring Marian Platz in the center of Munich. I picked up my car two days later.
I drive a black on black 2005 745Li. My first BMW but definately not my last. I still have my European plate on the front so if you see me give me a honk and a wave. Although my wife informed me that she saw my clone last week on I275. Same color, long wheel base, even had the ED plate on the front.
I'm also a car nut like yourself and most others on this board I imagine. My dream job would be to test and compare competing car brands/models and write articles on them. Kind of like what Csaba Csere, Larry Webster, Patrick Bedard, etc do over at Car and Driver but with more of a consumer advocate twist. Help determining which car makes the most sense for your situation, getting the best deal, and teaching others how to enjoy the experience or buying/owning/driving a great piece of machinery. Obviously aimed at the enthusiast not those that view cars as merely a means of transportation. I would not want this to be a for profit venture as the best way to ruin a hobby is to turn it into a career : ) No, in my dream world this would be a journey I would embark on after the kids are out of the house and I choose to sell my businesses or at least step back into a silent partner role.
So there's a little insight into who I am. Can't wait to learn more about other enthusiasts in this area.

So are there still any SE Michigan people still on the boards here? I just recently purchased a 2004 330xi. I've been a quattro club member since 2000, and still have my 2000 S4. I just have a thing for AWD cars ever since watching the Press On Regardless (now Lake Superior Pro Rally) up in Houghton while I was going to school up at Michigan Tech.
I grew up in Walled Lake and am now living downriver in Grosse Ile. Does anyone ever go to Kart 2 Kart up in Sterling Heights? It's a bit of a hike for me, but it's a lot of fun!

Hey, that sounds good! There's some boat races down here by me in Trenton every summer called Roar on the River. They have a car show one of the days as well. Maybe that'd be a good get together event. And yeah, Kart2Kart would be a great place to have a get together as well. One of the guys there has a nice M3.

BUMP.
Been a 'fest member for a while, but this is the first time I've checked the regional threads.
I drive an 03 E46 'M3 vert, and we just got an '07 E90 335i ZSP 6MT for the wife (replaces an '04 325xi ZSP 5MT). I am addicted to her car now and barring any miraculous appearance of the oft-rumored 2 series over the next year or so, I will be picking myself up a E93 335i.
We live in Canton. We'd definitely be up for a SE MI meet come summer time.
Happy new year to you all!

I'm not a BMW owner yet, but I'm in the market for an e36 M3 sedan. I'm always down for meets.
Some of you may recognize me as "ian" on Xceed, ef-honda, or MichiganCivics...
I currently own 2 Honda CRX's, 2 Honda N600's, a '07 Grand Cherokee, and a 1985 GMC bread truck.
Assuming I find "the right" car, I'll have a BMW in no time :) If anyone knows of an e36 M3 sedan, 5 speed let me know. I definately want a primo car in either black, silver, or dakar.

I grew up in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs. Went to Eastern Mich, Wayne State and U of M. Worked at Ford Research in Dearborn.
I'm living in Dallas now but I will be up this summer to visit family and some friends around the state. One is up in Indian Rivers and another has a summer home way up the Canadian side of Lake Huron.
It would be great to be up there during an event this summer. Please let me know of anything coming up when its warm. My travel dates are open so far so I can coordinate.
Thanks all.

Whoops, I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago about ice racing here. Although I didn't find out if it was going to be run or not until the night before, so there wasn't much warning. Anyway, there won't be much warning for this weekend either. If anyone wants to see what their BMW (or any other car) will do on ice, there's a chance there will be ice racing this Saturday in Linwood, MI.
For more info, check out http://www.svr-scca.com/iceracing.html
Attached is a pic of me on the ice.
Dave C

Well, the ice run scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled. Maybe this global warming thing is happening. We've only had 2 ice runs in 3 years now.

I've been on this board and the other one for quite a while, but never thought to check for us SEMichganders! This is great.
I have an '07 550i and of course have my winter tires on. I can hardly wait to go back to my summer treads, but am a little worried due to all the pot-holes.
I'm trying to hold off until mid-April. I know we've gotten snow after then, but I'll just have to monitor the climate.
Anyway, it's good to read the posts from you all. I'm located in Oakland County. Oakland Township to be exact. Hope to hear from you all shortly.
Watch out for the pot-holes!

I think Sunday is better too. I will nudge tron1043 (the organizer) will nail the date down so everyone can firm up plans.
Last time we met @ BW3 in Ferndale. It was ok but we could not all sit together inside due to the large party. We then had a caravan to Somerset mall and parked on the parking garage roof which was cool for pics.

This is a copy of post by the meet organizer tron1043 on E90Post. There are a lot of MI folks in this thread so don't be shy guys, come to the meet and get to know some fellow BMW owners. :)
OFFICIAL MEETING TIME Sunday, June 24, 2007 @ Champp's in Troy at (a) 3:00, (b) 4:00, (c) 5:00, (d) list your own, so long as it is after 2:00 p.m. In my opinion, the later the better, as the parking structure at Somerset will be less crowded.
ALSO, here is the likely schedule. First, get food, maybe a couple beers at Champp's. Next, either go for a drive, then go to Somerset for pictures/check out the cars. Or, we go straight to Somerset.
If we go for a drive, probably it will be on 16-Mile/Big-Beaver/Metro-Parkway (the same road, dependng on what part of town you're in)

Official meeting time: Sunday, June 24, 3:30 p.m. at Champp's. Park in the parking lot adjacent to the Champp's parking lot. (You can't miss it.)
