Ne1 know of or better yet own or work in a garage located in New Jersey that does private state inspections?? I have tint on the front windows (I think 20%). The tint is really light and they snagged me at inspection.. So I need someone to re-inspect my car and let the tinting slide.. I'll pull into the place with the windows down if I have to! :D Any help would be appreciated I really don't wat to get the tint removed.

Ouch. you gotta break the law to umm.. break the law. heh

What's the allowed % for tints in NJ? Sure would be a pain to have to get things replaced. Good luck whatever route you go.

You need to find someone in the sticks, say a Hick to inspect your car. But be careful, I took mine to a Hick here in NY and thought I would faint when he was rubbing his Budweiser belt buckle on the side of my car while scrapign off the old sticker!

I think 70 or 75% is legal limit in NY, mine is at 36% all around.

Apparently you cannot have ANY tint on the front 2 windows..
This state kinda sux.
Worst case scenario is I have to take the tint off.. get re-inspected..then get the tint put back on again.. that is a pain I would really like to try to avoid.

The windows come ~72% from factory, so NY doesn't really allow tint on the front 2 either. Ask around your office, there must be a small shop in more of a rural area that doesn't care about the tint. Maybe your dealer is forgiving? Call the place you had it tinted at, they may have someone they use.

Isn't the law pretty uniform throughout the US, or are there some states where it is legal?

It is very ILLEGAL here. Too bad because it is nice to have.

I have noticed over in Russia that certain "businessmen" even have the windshield of the vehicles tinted. Looks cool!

I have nothing against tint myself, it does look good and definitely cools the car but there is a very valid reason for banning dark tint on the front windows...would you want to be a cop on a routine traffic stop and have to walk up to a car at night that you can't see into at all?? I know I wouldn't...just too dangerous. :(

Agreed. However (always 2 sides), it is also a good theft deterent.

I had a 22% tint done on all glass but the windshield (of course). A friend of mine had his new Volvo V70 also done with 22%. I had (in my '00 318i) black cloth interior, he had beige leather. The difference was amazing. His windows looked much lighter than mine.

Naturally, every time that I saw the Police, I quickly had to get the front door windows down ... not a nice way to have think while driving!

Without a doubt it has it's good points, anti-theft, less fading of the interior and especially the heat...BUT...I really do see why they are illegal...traffic stops are dangerous enough for a cop without that added to it...

maybe I was wrong when I said my tint was 20%?? It is very light tint.. It is not blacked out and does not cause a hazzard for a cop on a routine traffic stop.. it is tinted just enough to not look clear. IMHO...It looks dramtically better over no tint at all.

Looking at your pictures in your signature your's definitely isn't 20% tint...that would be much, much darker. I don't see anything wrong with yours at all, it looks like you can still see through it with no problem even at night...that should be legal IMO.
