I'm fairly new to austin, so you guys know all the good places. But, it all sounds cool. The places on the lake (although it looks more like a river to me) look really nice, and anywhere in what I like to call "The Hills" (we don't have much uneven terrain back in Florida) is really nice.

JetBlack330i

ski shores?
Yes. Sorry for typo.
It's a decent drive up there. Nice winding back road.
Food is decent. By the lake.
Anyone need address?

I'm going to be in Austin April 9 to assist my bicycle team. Our group, Team Hotel San Jose, is putting on the AMLI Downtown Crit race. Depending on the timing of the Fester activities, I may be able to slip away from the race site for awhile.

How about we meet at that park by mopac and windsor loop and take RM 2222 to the lake. Any austinite knows that RM 2222 is one of the best roads to drive on especially in a bimmer!

Suggestions, keep them coming!

I live on the other end of 2222. It makes no sense for me to drive all the way to Zilker, and then back to Ski Shores.
How about 2 meeting places? You guys in the south can meet at Zilker and do the 2222 drive.
The second meeting place is for people in the north, and will be at the Mexican restaurant inside the Jester subdivision, on 2222, just before City Park Rd.
The first caravan comes to the Jester meeting place, at 11am, and we all drive down to City Park Rd and then to Ski Shores.
It should be quite a sight.

I was at home, and I thought the hail was going to break a window on the house. I need to check out my wife's car today, as it was in the driveway. Ours were about dime size. The worst of it was south of the Arboretum area.

EDIT - Ugh. Wife's Camry is full of dings. The whole top of the car, plus some on the side. I saw about eight on the hood alone.

Cheesecake factory sounds like as good a place to meet up as any. Actually a much better parking lot would be across the street in the shopping center with Macaroni Grill and TJ Max. That parking lot is always empty. What is Lime Creek?

I think I'm going to need a list from y'all as to where the best roads in/near austin are to drive. Less than a week, and I'm already getting fed up with the local streets here. These cars get beyond the speed limit really quickly.

April 16 is bad since my parents are coming into town that day.

April 23 is the BMWCCA Bluebonnet drive. I will be going on that drive - its always a lot of fun and a great chance to get some awesome pictures! If you are interested, check out http://www.tejaschapter.org - you don't need to be a member to come along!

Uggh I washed my car nice and clean on Thursday. Even did the windshields with Stoners. Car was sparkling. I was debating whether to take the car to work today, or keep it in the garage and take my old beater civic. I couldn't resist driving the new car though. Now it's got a nice thin layer of Austin Pollen all over it  I think I need 2 bimmers - one to drive, and one to keep looking shiny in my garage.

I am all set to drive up to Austin tomorrow morning. Washed the car after work though it is waiting for a full detail. Hopefully it will make it to Austin semi-clean. :(

Don't worry, mine is dirty too. It is going to rain Mon/Tues/Weds, so no point in doing a detail now.

Hope you can make it next time.

Great group of people. Went on multiple drives (Westlake, city park, mt bonnel?). Everytime we came to one of those squiggly road signs my face was: :D

I have pics, but they didn't come out great. I guess we'll wait for LDV330i to post (he had the best camera).

Thanks to all the guys there for making it a great day! I had a blast. We'll have to do one in the not too distant future to have aty, hockeynut, and dv join the party.

FYI - It looks like the Ultimate Drive at GS/Temple is going to be next Saturday (23rd) - came up sooner than I thought. I figured we could all go up there and contribute.

EDIT - May even be a good opportunity to meet up with some of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Festers.

BMW brings out a bunch of cars to drive (different models, some with sticks), and you drive them around a predetermined course through the town, making a loop. BMW donates money for every mile you drive, towards a cure for breast cancer.

If you like to drive new BMWs without an escort (CA), this is the best opportunity to do so, and it is for a good cause

Garlyn Shelton is the BMW dealer in Temple that is hosting this particular event. I have yet to find out exactly where in Temple the HQ is.

They're also having the Ultimate drive here in Austin this Thursday (the 19th). I'm going at 10AM. They'll have all lines of cars available from the Z4 to the 7-series. Should be a lot of fun.

This was a very enjoyable day that it absolutely made me overlook the fact that I had to get up at the ungodly hour of 5:30 AM. I do not even get up that early on a weekday. :D

Thanks go out to Xspeedy and JetBlack330l as the senior Austin residents for selecting wonderful routes, both scenic and where we could test some of our driving skills. Special thanks go out to Mrs. Xspeedy for so kindly accepting to be the group photographer.

Both the lunch and drinks restaurants were wonderful waterside venues to enjoy a wonderful spring day.

It was great to meet all of you. It is hard to believe that 3 of us had a South Florida connection.

I will get my pictures developed tomorrow but I will not able to post until the evening because I have a company picnic to attend.

Oops my bad - yes it's thursday the 21st. I dunno where I got the 19th from. Anyway I will be there at 10AM - lets meet up - Maybe we can race :-)

And Mr Hockeynut! We waited for hours outside of the cheesecake factory. Everytime a Bimmer drove by (and there are a lot in the arboretum) we're like there's hockey... no there he is... no there he is.... tsk tsk tsk - for shame!!!

What the hell I'll go into work real early so I can stop by for lunch. What time should I take my lunch, and do you think I should sign up or just show up?All the cool cars liike the 545i and the 645i Convertible are probably not availabe at this time since all the slots are all signed up for. I had to sign up for them back in February as soon as registration opened and only 1 slot was open. I was asked to swap my 645 time to accommodate a standby couple who had been wating for a while. So as soon a you get to the dealership and register for the event talk to drive coordinator to see what cars will become available. The route you will be given will take 20 to 30 minutes to drive. So may want to be a little selective about you take. It may mean you may have to wait a little while for the car you really want instead of the one that is free right then.

I've heard that they schedule slots for an hour, but the cars are usually back, like LDV said, in less than half an hour. That means if you wait around for a few minutes you can probably drive a car inbetween scheduled runs. I can't verify that - but I've heard several people say that. I've signed up for a 645 and 545 myself, but I'm hoping to get squeeze in a Z4 3.0. Now if only they had an M3.
