Jeez, today on the 405 (I-405 for non- Californians) I saw one of the cars from Jimmy540i's Nightmare BMW site - the yellow e36 with r!cer taillights and the huge gray metal wing on the trunk lid. Didn't look any better in person :tsk:

Briefly, until I came on a spot where I could safely pass it (the Bimmer gives me lots of options in that area). They're towing Suburbans behind their RV's now. Must be the Haliburton shareholders vacationing on the West Coast this summer.

hahaha.... I was just about to post a similar response.

Speaking as a nearly life-long resident (since 1960) of the Bay Area, I don't get it either. I hear people call BART "the BART" too. Whatever... :dunno:

Yup, although I generally refer to BART as "the train" (Bay Area Rapid Transit, or how I get to work every day). The denizens of LA seem to like to use the definite article to refer to their freeway numbers. Us Northerners think it sounds goofy.

ahh, like the 115 or the 163, instead of I 115 or I 163

but it's definitely entrenched down here. What's worse is a lot of people also use the freeway name down here. Ex: Pomona Freeway, Marina Freeway, Ventura Freeway, etc.

Oh, I thought he was referring to the special on Cockateels. $49.99, can’t beat that, ha.

As in: I took 280 to Palo Alto on Friday. Or what're taking, 101?

That doesn't seem that bad. We don't seem to have too many "named" freeways here that I know of; all I can recall is the Nimitz in the East Bay.
We *are* real big on naming freeway bridges, though :dunno:

FWIW, 101 is not part of the interstate system and its name is the Bayshore freeway. Neither is 17 (i.e., 880 (the Nimitz) after it passes South through San Jose). IIRC, 280 is named the Sinclair freeway, but don't hold me to that.

FWIW, I found this. Now you too can win useless trivia contests.

13 Warren Freeway
80 East Shore Freeway/Bay Bridge
85 West Valley Freeway
87 Guadalupe Freeway
92 Arthur Younger Freeway/San Mateo Bridge
101 Bayshore Freeway/ Golden Gate Bridge/Redwood Freeway
237 Moutian View/Alviso Freeway
280 Junipero Serra/Southern Freeway
580 McArthur Freeway/Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
680 Sinclair Freeway
880 Nimitz Freeway
980 Oakland Freeway

"280 Junipero Serra/Southern Freeway"

D'Oh! Of course. Shame on me. :banghead:

Or RVs towing minivans? Of course, I was going so friggin' slow I had plenty of time to take the pic.

Actually, I should have known 280 is the Junipero Serra freeway. There's even a HUGE statue of him at a rest stop up in Hillsborough.

Well, OK, I guess I *don't* use them enough to remember. Had NO idea 280 was the "Southern Freeway"

Neither did I. Seeing the names instantly refreshed my memory on most of them, but I always just use the number (sans "the" or "I", of course :) ).

As for your observation, yeah, I just noticed this on Saturday and pointed it out to my wife ("Hey look at that idiot pulling an Explorer with his recveek.")
Whatever conservation gains were made 30 years ago are gone now. All gone.

I saw 2-3 RVs towing Suburbans on my trip. Most were towing minivans or "normal" sized SUVs. If anyone can't figure out where the money to fund these Islamic extremists comes from...

I wonder what's wrong with motels? :dunno: I liked most of the ones I stayed at. Meanwhile, the Bimmer averaged 25 mpg for the trip at speeds that generally exceeded the posted limit driven by a guy who frequently had a BIG smile on his face (unless he was behind some big gas sucking thing).
