the HUD option on the car. I think that tops my list of must have options.

Yep, it is pretty sweet! I also learned that it is adjustable. You must removed the "window frame" around it (snap it off) and then adjust some dial, put it back together, and then hope you adjusted it correctly. :)

Very cool....where did you find that mr. 5 series?

Do mean its verticel position on the windscreen is adjustable? I find mine s a bit low and cuts of the speed if I don't sit up straight.

Rather than be a jerk and download and steal, I'll just post the link where I found the HUD (and A LOT MORE) info:

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=2717

You'll find 5 pdfs talking about the HUD.

Hmmm..it looks like a dealer service adjustment.

I was talking to a buddy of mine last night and he claimed that while the dealer has the "100% correct tools" to do this adjustment, it isn't totally necessary to have the dealer do it. While a tad painful, it can be a DIY and work fine if you are patient and careful.

Aside from the HUD option, I love the SMG and the active steering as well as the active suspensions. Driving my 2002 E39 M5 is just not as fun as the E60 545 nowadays.

BTW, why are you adjusting the HUD display?? Are you that short McFly?? :dunno:

cheers,

HUD is fine for me but Arn wanted to adjust his slightly. Bill had trouble with seeing the HUD as well but we were hoping it would be easily adjustable..you know, via a button or the joystick... :)

SMG WITH THE SPORT BUTTON ON is fine in the Dn mode. I can't imagine anyone liking the SMG in Dn mode without the sport button depressed...it quite simply sucks and shifts like a garabage truck.

Now in pure manual mode (i.e. pure fun mode), the SMG rocks and shifts nice and crisp...especially under full throttle.

The active suspension is amazing...there is zero and I mean ZERO body roll in the car no matter how fast and how tight a turn is. It simply refuses to roll! Amazing...amazing.

I have to admit that if no one had told me about the active steering that I'm not sure I would have noticed anything special about it. However, at low speeds and in the normally tight/small parking garges prevalent throughout Europe, it worked quite well.

Hey Old Timers! You've all traded up!

When I drove Bernard's 545i, it seemed that the only regular information displayed in the HUD was speed and turn instructions. Is there more?

Hey Robert...I'm surprised you haven't traded up!

Yeah, the Nav only had speed and upcoming Nav data point. Its pretty cool though.

There is a menu in which you can select I think a total of four different things that can be displayed in the HUD. Speed, NAV, and I forget the other two! :) They need a tachometer on the HUD!

My time is coming, but I usually keep my cars a bit longer than most. The E90 in intrigues me, and the 530i is a possibility too. I learned my lesson in the 80s: never buy a BMW for one or two years after into. Now that the E60 is coming on MY #3, I'm considering it. That said, my E39 is a great car.

You can also have cruise control indicator displayed....it tells you the speed that the cruise is set for and you you can have check control messages displayed. I agree with Arnolds, the HUD is a great option. Thanks Beewang for talking me into it. At first I thought it was just a gimmick, but it really is great, especially if you have NAV.

Now, all I need is an interface for my Passport and Lidatek to display on the HUD!!!!!!
